Default ****! slave just went out on my gf's car.

so she was driving towards work and she called me saying her car would go into gear. Her car had been leaking clutch fluid from the master cylindar. So I asked her to check the fluid level. she filled it up. I went to take a look at it and the clutch is pedal is dead. My SS did the same thing a while back. the spring on the slave was cought on a pin and wasent releasing the pedal. anyways Does anyone want to come and fix it for her? Let me know how much you charge and we'll take it from there. the work can be done in my garage.
the car is located in carlsbad 92010

When do you need it fixed? I can swap a slave in about 2-3 hours without a lift, but not until saturday afternoon. I have a NIB slave from scoggin dickey if you need that as well. I don't know what I would want to charge for that kind of thing though, don't usually fix cars for money.

That sucks man. I just replaced the slave in my '99 SS this past Sun. I've done the slave maybe 5 times now (friend's cars).

Do you have the new one already?

Step by step clutch swap write up with pics:

http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...ch_install.htm

Follow the write up (it's easy) and just drop the tranny, the slave unbolts with two bolts, bolt the new one on, put the tranny back up, bleed the system and you're done.
You said your master was leaking as well, replace it while you are at it.

Agreed. Replace all of it. If you buy a master from the auto parts store, specify 01-02 they have different stops than the earlier ones. It is pretty easy to change out but can be a pain if you don't like to get dirty. I'll think about a price and PM you tomorrow.

Two ways to do it...

1) The old fashion way, there is a bleed screw on the slave, you get a wrench on it, top off the resevoir, have someone push in the clutch pedal, pop open the bleeder, close it, then pull out the pedal...repeat untill A LOT of fluild squirts out of the bleed screw when you pop it aka, no air coming out.

2) Use a Mighty Vac, have the slave and master all hooked up, hook up the mighty vac to the resevoir, apply a vacuum, you will see bubbles comming out, big ones at first followed by little ones. Remove the hose from the resevoir, pump the clutch pedal, and repeat until pedal feels 100% blead.

Have Bryce come hold the tranny for you while you swap it. He should be an expert after helping me with mine. Or at least he did enough watching to learn a few things! Lol.

You can drop a tranny and put it back in within 2-3 hrs without a lift?! Either your a mechanic and have done this MANY times or your exaderating a little here.

It's not hard after you've done it a few times.
Try dropping/reinstalling it without a lift, by yourself, with a floor jack... I've done that twice. Not that I want to do it by myself again.

Oh yea! Ive done that before too. On jackstands, by myself, no trans jack, just the 2 ton jack, AND for the first time ever! Now im a rookie mechanic and I was quite proud of myself! Even though it took me about three times as long as it should have...lol

I've done it too many times for my own good is what you mean. When I swapped my slave about 3 weeks ago I was working on transmission pull #22 just between my two cars. The T56 is easy to pull down since you don't have to take the bellhousing. Lining it back up is the hard part. I swapped mine WITH a lift 3 weeks ago in less than 2 hours start to finish. I guess it really depends on how easily his exhaust wants to come apart. I prefer to just let the transmission down onto my chest rather than try to balance it on a jack, makes it really easy to get back into place too, so you can struggle with lining it up for 15 minutes. Pretty much just bear hug the stupid thing.

Note: between my 2 cars, both A4 and M6 I've dropped the transmission a total of 22 times.

Damn! 22 times?! What would you have to drop them so many times for? How much would you estimate the T-56 weighs? If you can bear hug it and then pretty much bench press it back in then it cant be more than 150 lbs or so?

I've dropped it on my chest instead of using a jack as well, in a pinch. It gets heavy real quick, but as long as you drop it out/line it up and slide it in quickly, it's not too bad, I'd say it's ~120lbs.
