Who has made the switch?
Who has switched from dexcool to the green stuff or whatever else? I have heard that dexcool is just a way for gm to make money , i have heard that the green stuff will eat up parts, ect... i am sure the debate goes on and on and on. so lets get the western guys opinions since we seem to deal with some high heat.
Anyone run any additives like watter wetter or whatever else?

Dexcool's main function (or so they say) was to go to a 100,000 mile change interval on the coolant. Back when they introduced it that was GM's new thing. "The plugs and coolant will last 100,000 miles!!". Well it's obvious to say now, that ploy didn't exactly work out. Dexcool usually begins to sludge up around 60-75K pretty badly and the stock plugs are garbage by 75K usually.
I've swapped some cars over to the green stuff before with no ill effects. Green coolant doesn't "eat parts", if that was the case people wouldn't have been using it for the past 70 years
Just make sure your system is COMPLETELY flushed out and clean before putting the green stuff in. None really has a benefit over the other, as I recommend flushing your coolant about every 40-50K miles anyway.

its not that dexcool is going to hurt but if the only advantage is to "last" 100k miles then it's useless. What car enthusiast leaves it in there that long? Might as well use the green stuff; typically cheaper any way.

I was a tech at a chevy dealership for over 3 years and now i own a mobile performance company and I am an ASE Master Technician. (just to show im not talking out of my ***) The real difference between the two is the chemical makeup. The whole "eating parts" thing is true IF YOU MIX THE COOLANT TYPES. this causes a chemical reaction which can eat away at aluminum and clog the system. As far as on being better than the other? I say stick with the dexcool. It was designed for these motors, lasts a little bit longer (not 100k tho) and you really dont need that much of it. Here in southern cali, I run 70% distilled water and 30% dexcool.

killer-ls1 is right. if you run one or the other in the right mixture, you should be fine. (with proper maint of course)
but! as stated if you mix the two, there is a chemical reaction that can 'gum up" and also eat away at your gaskets and aluminum.
i have been a tech for 23 years, and have seen first hand. when you add green to a dexcool system, it has a bad effect on the plastic/rubber style factory intake gaskets. and has also been seen to eat away at the aluminum and plastics on the intakes.
as far as the new coolant?? haven't really seen a problem with it yet! it claims to mix with anything? but only time will tell.
i personally run green in a 50/50 mix on all junk now. i do run just water with 2 water wetters in the race/street car. it seems to work fine, but it does climb up the gauge when stuck in traffic on a 100deg day.
