Cool The Return Of The 5.0

So, by now you've heard that the new powerplant puts out 412 ponies, or 83 horsepower-per-liter. Now, AW wants you to know it also offers up 390 pound-feet of torque and that peak power comes at a screaming 6,500 RPM.

The new powertrain combination will also return 25 miles per gallon, says AW. How does it manage this feat? With an aluminum engine block with cast cylinder sleeves and brand-new heads with four valves per cylinder, vertical intake ports and twin independent variable valve timing. Don't forget the tuned exhaust headers, a forged steel crankshaft with four-bolt main bearings plus new pistons and connecting rods.

And what about the transmission? Your choice of either the 6R80 automatic transmission or the MT82 six-speed manual. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming... until the next bit of embargo breakage, of course.

Wow. If all that is true then the Mustang is going to be quite impressive. I cant wait to see how it will do once it's finalized.

Not to mention it's probably going to weigh hundreds of pounds less than the Camaro, like now.

I would imagine that would make it on par with the new Camaro's LS3 performance, not surpass it, but I could be wrong...

It doesn't, but its close. Thats what happens when you put a DOHC, quad vavle, VVT heads on an almost forged engine and tune it to the max. I bet that engine is very expensive compared to our cheap *** push rods.

meh... it comes with tubular headers from the factory. Put a set of longtubes on a 2010 Camaro and you'll be putting carlengths on that stang with ease.

its gonna be some good competition, finally the mustang is a real car. Still tho, you can just cam a camaro and be gone but with the mustang it has to be blown.

they are claiming 412HP and 390ft lbs, so in fordland that should equate to roughly.... 304RWHP and 254ft lbs of torque.

lol.
