I rode this down to San Diego this past weekend and I didn't think about sharing this with you guys. Fortunately it will be running again this Saturday from LA Union Station to San Bernardino Amtrak/Metrolink station. Its a 1927 ex Santa Fe steam locomotive that my dad and some other guys restored to working order. Its been on many excursions in the US and the Santa Fe railway has used it as an ambassador for special employee trips. Its something thats kinda dorky but cool and makes 5,000 boiler rated HP and about 3200 HP to the drawbars (thats like saying RWHP). Come check it out this weekend if you want and PM me for details. Also, there are bunch of videos on You Tube... just type in Santa Fe 3751. Here are some links below to a couple.
These are from the 1992 Chicago trip. We went from LA to Chicago and back in 23 days and I missed 2 weeks of school. Although the video quality is not great it gives you a good idea of the power and speed the locomotive is capable of. The first one is at 70MPH plus.

Here are a couple from this past weekend. The first one is pretty awesome as the guy put his video camera on the tracks and captured the train going over it. Pretty unreal.
