I just dont know how you guys with headers manage to get away with the cops. I know why I got pulled over. turns out My driver side tailight went out. Cop have me a warning on 2 things, tailight and not using my turn signal. I know, lame, but I did get a fix it ticket for modified exhaust. I have no cats, LM1. I dont want to put cats for a day and then take them off. Is there another way around it??? The cop will never look under the car, just hear the sound and thats it. what can I do?

If you got a fix it ticket id consider yourself extremely lucky. Id say put the cats on because you really dont have much of a choice but I still think they will say something about how loud it is.
I drove with headers for a couple years but had a magnaflow system so it wasnt too loud until I got on it. I got stopped a few times but by being respectful I never got a ticket.

yep your attitude depends alot when dealing with cops, i use to drive my h/c/i longtubes with ory with a single chamber flowmaster, while sitting on slicks and skinnys all the time with no problems
although chp is a different story, they just want to give you your ticket and go on with there day

He was cool said it was just a bit loud and Im like I know Im sorry. thats why he gave me 2 warnings, to replace my tailight, and turns out my license plate light also burnt out. I would have to find a stock axleback that would quiet my car down without installing the cats, if I have to I guess I have too. =/

I had the same issue 3 months ago. I have LTs and gmmg. Took off gmmg and threw on my stock muffler. Took it to Rio Hondo for the decibels test and didn't past. I got 122 decibels and 95 or lower is passing. I went to west covina court to just pay $174. It's a lot easier to pay this amount than to throw on cats for a day.

B, puts the cats on. If nothing else, it'll save your *** when you get pulled over next time and they actually LOOK for cats. It isn't worth $1000 to not have "any" kind of cats. Sure they'll still be illegal, but at least you can plead to him and say "I at least tried to comply with the laws and I added cats".

You should buy an exhaust that actually sounds good. Get a Magnaflow catback and you will pass just fine and also sound much better. No offense but LM1 sounds like crap to me expecially with no cats.

What if I went with Magnaflow High Flow Cats? It sounds like **** cause I have no flowmaster merge. The stock merge makes it sound really raspy. It scares some rice away though lol. Sommer your right man. I guess ill do high flow cats for now, throw in a stock exhaust so it can pass, and then throw my LM1 back on till I get a set of headers with metallic core cats, dynomax true duals dumped. I want that setup so bad. Its either dumped true duals, or true duals CME.

This thread is filled with SO much misinformation.
1) You need to put your car back completely to stock if you want to pass. There can't be any exhaust leaks or the extra noise will cause you to fail.
2) There is no aftermarket performance muffler that will pass. No questions asked. Nothing aftermarket that nets you power will pass the test. The stock muffler barely passes as-is.
3) That guy above was lucky. The overall cost to you can be $174, or it can be $1,740. It depends on the fine at the courthouse and/or how much it costs you to fix it, and is different at each location.
Sorry but that is BULLSHIT. This is not a smog test, it is a DECIBEL test.
I had stock exhaust manifolds, stock cats, and stock catback, and it BARELY passed.
