LS9 heads? Why not L92/LS3 heads?

Also LS6 intake will not work with any of the new heads. They are square port, the LS6 intake is cathedral port.

Do you want to keep it smog legal?

A solid low buck combo would be the LS2 bottom end, L92/LS3 heads, L92/LS3 intake, custom cam, LT's, 3" exhaust, nitrous. (assuming smog is not an issue)

check here for any compatibility issues between gen III and IV.

Yup, I love that simple combo, easy way to make 460+ rwhp NA.

Once 2013's new smog laws (no more tailpipe checks) roll around you'll be set on a combo like that being "street legal" until then you'll have to keep the cam a bit tame to maintain smog status.

Hit up PatrickG or PredatorZ either of them will be able to spec you a custom cam to suit your specific needs and make the power you are looking for. Just bypass all the shelf ready cams, they are too generic for what you need.

PatrickG spec'd my cam and it really wasn't that much more for my custom grind versus an off the shelf cam. I was more than happy to pay a few bucks more for something actually tailored to my application and by a few bucks I think it was around 30 or 40 extra. Poor memory (may have been a little more) but I remember it was well worth it

There is an entire thread on the subject in this section.

The gist of it is: Anything from 2000 on will drop the tailpipe testing and only be subject to OBDII computer scan and visual.

It is said that as long as the computer is not throwing codes, most any cam/heads combo with a good tune and emissions devices in place will pass.

It is also suspected that if a tech is found who will overlook "certain items" *cough* LT's/ORY *cough* one can pass with a pretty stout set-up.
