Jim @ CalSpeed in Bakersfield. $299 for a tune, and there is no one better than him with a laptop and HPTuners.
Not knocking any other tuners locally or anywhere else, but the power gains I've seen under three different circumstances have been outstanding.
He stands by his work, too. I won't take my car to anyone else now.
Absolutely worth the drive.

Mail order tune is great if you've got no one local, but living in SoCal gives you no excuse NOT to get a dyno tune. You basically are getting 80% of a tune going the mail order route. I know, because I tried that.
Nothing compares to the benefits of having the tuner in your car while it's on the dyno and the street.

I don't get this statement. How much did you spend on parts for you car?(rhetorical question) Don't you want your car to be running to its full potential. Think of it as a part that is $400-$600, and this said part is guaranteed to make your car run better. Just how I look at it but to each there own a mail order tune is just fine for your needs then there you go man no biggie.

Mail order gets your car running within base parameters, honestly other people might make more power with their tunes but a lot of CMS customers, like myself, have daily driven cars and I have 160 plus passes at the track and 3 years daily driving to prove how great the tune is, I get 20 mpg on the hoghway and 12 city with a stalled built auto with 3.42 gears and 10.95:1 compression and a tsp 228r cam with 36 lb injectors. It is a solid car that runs 7.4 in the 1/8th and I can cruise around town with AC no problem.
You spent all this money on parts, why not go all the way and have the car run correctly too?
Good luck but honestly this is a dumb decision.
