People need to take into consideration of the smog check points that they are now doing instead of DUI check points, is it really worth it cause if caught your car will be towed and fined to fix/replace the parts

To some of us oldsters that remember cruising in the late '50's, early '60's, & all the way up to the late '70's, driving a 700 RWHP late model chariot is worth almost as much as life itself. My '09 Cad CTS-V lays down 658 RWHP on a Dynojet on SAE CF and even if I only take it to breakfast & back home it's worth everything.

New info from the BAR:
http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResource...%20Summary.pdf
I've heard from a few people that some shops that are beta testing the software (even though the certification process is frozen for the moment) are passing cars that failed the sniffer test at a different smog shop when they do the new OBDII scan.

If anyone needs to pass by installing a stock exhaust system I am selling everything except the cats (already sold) from a 2002 Trans Am for $80 picked up near Los Angeles (Simi Valley, CA 93065).

I heard a rumor that if you do a LSX swap into a pre76 vehicle, you would have to do the emissions of the year of engine. Example : 1967 camaro with a 2007 ls7 engine would have to do 2007 emissions standard (no LT headers, Cam, Ect). Is this true?

Just smogged my 04 GTO, and I went to a place that is using one of the new DAD systems and it passed. I watched the tech do the test, and he plugged in the device, it did a scan for about 2mins, and then he connected that device back to the state computer. I was in and out in about 15 minutes.
I do have a dyno tune from CMS so I'm guessing the smog computers are unable to detect custom tunes. Either that or since I didn't throw any codes it didn't care.

So hes basically saying that there will be no more sniffer for the 2000+ cars at all? I was under the impression that it was the discretion of the tech on what to do. Any kind of confirmation on that?

I just did smog on my 2002 WS6 at a STAR station. I was in for about 20 minutes. No tail pile test but they did run the computer and rev the motor while reading the computer. He did a very thorough visual inspection looking at cats, manifolds and emission components.
I passed with ported 799 heads and Custom tune - Mods in sig - no issues. My car looks stock and I did temporarily installed my stock air lid just to make sure the car "looks" as stock as possible. My heads are engraved at the ends so I put a decorative head plate over the passenger side engraving. GM 799 stamp is there but I doubt they look that up.
I'm looking to do a mild cam and call it a day. IMO keeping the stock exhaust manifolds, emission components and cats is the key. If it looks stock you should not have a problem.
