Ok I have a couple of questions... I'm moving to San Diego in the near future and I'm having a 370 built for my 2005 gmc short wide. Is a 6.0 swap even legal for my truck ? Its also t56 swapped does that have anything to do with the visual inspection? I've got a set of ported 706 heads and from what I've read a tr224 114 -4 overlap cam from tsp is a safe bet. I'm assuming the egr has to be put back on along with manifolds and cats. Any help or advice other than stay away from cali would be appreciated.

The way I understand the law is it can be from the same model year or newer and the same "body type" vehicle. Cars-cars, trucks-trucks. And you have to have all the OEM emissions stuff in place

Smogged my DD 04 Altima today in Fontana. Tech did a cursory visual inspection, nothing too in depth followed by an OBD II diagnostic port scan. He told me no more dyno testing for cars 2000+. I paid the same as I did before with the sniffer test, but it was a lot faster. In and out in 15 minutes. I guess that's good news for 2000+ with mods. I'm a 98 so I still get to spin the rollers in March.

I went to friendly smog shop willing to overlook the visual. My car almost sounds stock
. He told me that the system is so new he doesn't really know what it can find. He thinks that even a non stock tune will not pass. He recommend that I do not let him test it. He would if I wanted, but if I failed, off to the ref I go

1995 LT-1 OBD-1 car with the specs noted in my signature.
My two years were up and had to bring the Z28 into a Star smog station. My first smog test since the top end build. I passed with the following (15 mph) numbers:
HC (PPM) Measured at 5 - Max allowed is 58
CO (%) Measured at .01 - Max allowed is .48
NO (PPM) Measured at 325 - Max allowed is 483
Thanks to Solomon at lt1pcmtuning.com for helping me dial in the tune.
Great shop in San Marcos did the test and they are not afraid of cars that are modified - as long as the visual stuff is CARB. It is obvious that my car does not have a stock cam and they even commented on it before testing.
Build sheet and dyno sheet are located here:

What a relief it is to get that cloud of not knowing if I was going to pass or not lifted off of my shoulders.
Next step is to get her on a 1/8 or 1/4 mile track - I am 56 yrs. old and have never done that.

Hey fellas, I moved out to Sacramento and want to know if my car can be driven here before I drag it from Texas. It's an 05 V, LQ4 swap, cammed, heads, bolt ons, and I believe the exhaust is straight to dual flowmasters.
My tuner could have it pass Texas inspection but I have been reading some interesting stuff for Cali...

Depends on cam specs. Long tubes are a no. I think -4* overlap on the cam is about the max you can get away with. Heads must have a CARB EO# to be legal.
The LQ4 swap, I dont even know what those came out of. For swaps, must be from a same class vehicle, same model year or newer with all emissions equipment in place. Out of state vehicles can be registered in state if they pass the 49 state smog and have, I think, over 7500 miles on them. They will still run the test like a normal CA smog, just under a 49 state standard for allowed emissions and equipment I think.
