Also they do still use the sniffer but only on 2000 and older cars, 2001 and up they just hook up to the obd2.
It's actually 2000 & up just did smog on my 00z28 last week and obd2 only. Anyone know of a tuner that does smog friendly tunes.

do you have the SLP manifold? or just a regular ls6 manifold? If you have a regular and have removed the manifold did you have the EGR removed?

If you have a decent tune you could possibly slap some stock cats and y pipe and pass... otherwise your going to have to find a special person to pass you

It is the slp ls6 intake with egr on my car. It would pass the sniffer, as I have a good tune, and cats on it, but no way it's gonna pass visual with slp longtubes.

Theres a 99% chance you won't need to do the sniffer test. As far as visual, are your headers polished or shiny at all? I feel like black coated or even a bit rusty headers might slip by. Stock heatshields modded to fit the long tubes might be a cool idea too. Do your cats look like stock cats or like high flow cats?

Their as rusty as can be (longtubes). The cats definitely look aftermarket. They're only 11" long. Car doesn't wreak of gas since I got rid of the hollowed cats. I'm almost 100% certain it would pass the sniffer.

sounds like you might need to pay a little axtra and a wink to pass, some tech do take the visual very seriously.. Even if you pay it will be a lot less than putting all stock component on it that's if you don't have them anymore..

2004 C5 Z06
A&A supercharger (CARB legal)
short-tube headers (CARB legal)
230 / 234 cam 117 lsa
OEM cats
Corsa catback exhaust

Passed with ease.

I drove up...they plugged in the OBD2 port and ran the diagnostics...then he jotted down the CARB EO # from the supercharger...then I paid him and left.

Good to hear! Does your cam have a lope to it with the 117lsa? Im thinking that an aggressive idle might be red flag for smog techs

At cold start there is very noticeable lope. When it's warmed up it smooths out a lot, but you can detect it.

Even though Star stations are supposed to be the newest in validation processes, keep in mind that most will be a tad different, & that the technician can use a sniffer if he chooses to do so.
Good luck to everybody & Happy New Year from your friendly CARB, BAR, & PRK.
Oops, my bad. Sorry for the bogus info. The portion of the assembly bill that dealt with the smog tech being able to do a sniffer test if he feels that something is afoul was deleted from the bill prior to the bill becoming a statute.

My 05 Chrysler 300c won't pass due to being catless.
I can't find any stockers to throw on for a couple weeks

If any one has extra ones laying around for this car that wants to let them go cheap, let me know

Can anyone give a definite answer on whether a custom tune can stop you from passing under the new standards? I'm thinking about getting a C5, but that would definitely deter me from getting one. Thanks.

I have been by a good authority told that so far, no, but look for that to change if the system becomes more sophisticated. It may never happen.

Your vehicle tune won't effect smog testing as long as no emissions systems have been disabled or you have a bad tune that is causing your engine to produce more NOx or too much unburned fuel.

Smog techs are no longer allowed to check tail pipe emissions when doing the the OBDII check requirements.

I took mine in to a Local Smog-n-go. They hooked up to OBD and did a thorough visual. No issues with a custom tune here.

I'm wondering now without worrying about testing the tailpipe what kind of cam's we should be able to get away with that perform better than the 244 sticks we have been using but won't lobe so hard that the tech's will be able to tell that something was changed. Time to start researching!
