Default cat caught in a garbage disposal

Hey i was just wondering if anyone here in californai had a cam in the LS1, if so, is it smog legal and what kind is it and how much did you gain when you got it? i would like to go with a heads/cam with my car but i dont want to have to swap the stock one in, since i already plan on doing that with the LT headers and TD setup. Anyone?

224/224 114 LSA is about the biggest you can go and pass with flying colors. Check sponsors like Thunder Racing for prices. W/ heads and a good tune 400 rwhp is about the average. Do a search you'll find a ton on info. And why didn't you want to do heads... you completely lost me there. Hope your cats is ok.

i didnt mean i didnt wanna do heads. I meant i dont want to have to swap the stock heads and stock cam on in order to pass smog. I want to do a complete heads/cam swap for my car and be able to pass smog. Im looking to get around 450rwhp though. Honestly i just want my car to be able to beat the new Shelby GT500s and C6s that are out and coming out. I figure the heads/cam + QTP LTs + QTP Xpipe + Borla XR1 Bullet Mufflers + 78mm FAST TB + FAST intake manifold.... what do you guys think? and BTW the cats fine, but man! what a mess...

I will be installing the 224/224 114lsa. I just got the smog check done a few months ago and the values are so low, I could probably go larger.

I don't honestly don't see you hitting 450 and passing cali smog. You'll need a fast 90/90 and a BIG cam for 450. There is a guy in sacramento that did something like 440 with an F13 and fast 90/90 with stock heads. You'd better have a pretty good smog hookup and hope the po po doesn't decide to pick on you with that setup though. If CA does start doing more check points for modified cars like they are talking about, I think a big lopey cam is going to be a dead give away.

They claim they can have you putting down 500rwhp and still passing emissions.

Look into your Forced Induction options.

Actually Check out with Rick @ Synergy he can get a 226/226 112LSA to pass smog. Just to show he is bad a$$ he got a stock LS1 with no cats and Long tubes to pass smog. No hows that for tuning boys. His dyno can load the car at any speed so he is able to duplicate just about every condition in the real driving conditions. Pm him and he will be sure to help with this.

sounds likw your goals are just what i was looking for when i did my H/C package.
except mine was on a small budget.

but i got my 400rwhp, and love it. and i passed smog with flying colors.
if you wanted more than 400rwhp, and still wanted to pass smog, id say you can going a bigger cam than me, and more compression but you may need to de-tune come time to smog.

or just get a blower? turbo?
