Default I got sent to the state referee today

I just got pulled over for no front license plate, and from there he made me pop open my hood because of my loud exhaust. He gave me a ticket for modified exhaust and i have to take it to a referee to get it inspected. Im going to have to return my car back to stock now. This is going to be the first time for me going with the referee. I heard that they are very picky with any aftermarket parts. My car is a 98 and it has a ls6 manifold with egr hookup. will i have to swap it back to ls1 manifold to pass? I dont want to get sent back to fix something. I want to get this taken care of as soon as possible.

if the egr port is in there i wouldnt worry about it to be honest, i would first go to the referee and see if you pass..... i bet you will

I was pulled over by Salinas CA. How much would the fine be? I got pace longtubes with the egr connections, high flow cats. the car passed smog with this setup as I explained to the cop, but he couldnt fine the carb # on the headers.

What does it say on your ticket?.......I got a ticket in December for a modified exhaust and I didn't go to court. So they sent me a ticket for $167. What did the cop tell you?

27156(b) vc modified emissions referee certification required, and on the back it has a sticker state referee certification required, no officer sign off, and I cant drive my car until in compliance.

The cop said that the referee was going to verify if my exhaust was legal. the thing that pissed me off even more was that me and the cop work for the same city and the next day I saw in the shop when I was working. He asked me about my truck for sale he didnt even know who I was until I reminded him about the ticket he was speechless

The referee is going to say your exhaust is illegal, if you only had an aftermarket muffler(no headers/high flow cats) you would still fail. Yeah I know, Cali sucks!

yeah that ticket sucks, and so does the state ref. You need to have carb stickers for everything because the mechanics at the stations are very picky.

what's to keep someone from just making a metal plate with some Carb #'s on it and tack welding it to the headers?

damn, i need to be on the lookout more often now, **** is getting crazy in cali. I thought i just had to worry about smog every two years, now i have to worry about modified exhaust part tickets? i thought certain aftermarket parts were okay in cali? You would still fail at the ref. if you JUST have a muffler change?

According to this Statute, every single speed shop would be out of business!!!

It Reads:

No person shall install, sell, offer for sale, or advertise any device, apparatus, or mechanism intended for use with, or as a part of, any required motor vehicle pollution control device or system which alters or modifies the original design or performance of any such motor vehicle pollution control device or system.

Ive gotten like 3 of those tickets...
first take the sticker off the ticket and see if a cop will sign it off if not just pay the ticket...

I just got back from the refree, my car failed because I need stock cats for a 98 and the ones I had were from a 00. My car passed smog though, and I was surprised he didnt say anything about my ls6 manifold. Anybody know where I can get stock cats, ypipe, for a 98 for a cheap price? I got rid of my stock parts after having them taking up space for a long time If I knew this was going to happen I would of saved them.
