Default Fastest car in the world...made in the U.S.!

The SSC Ultimate Aero

The SSC Ultimate Aero is a supercar in the most vulgar sense. With the NASA wind tunnel tested vehicle capable of a theoretical top speed of 273 mph (439 km/h), and its 6.3-liter twin turbo V8 producing 1,183 bhp (882 kW), the Ultimate Aero maintains the title of world's fastest production car at a confirmed 257.15 mph (413.84 km/h). However, the disgusting part is not the $620,000 price tag but rather its full DOT street legal status in the U.S.

wow this car is extremely fkn insane!! i went ahead and looked up the Electric Vehicle that Jerod Shelby mentions in the video and turns out they are working on a 500hp electric motor...they are thinking about putting two of those in their new car and make it a 1000hp supercar. According to SSC you would charge the battery every couple of years. How sick is that?

I find that really hard to believe, do you mean replace? I don't know how you could have enough battery power to run two 500 hp electric motors for two years.

They say the car can be used for long intervals between charges, they even go out as far as saying that the timeframe can be as long as 6 years. While i too have my doubts just the concept of it is absolutely amazing. Hope they prove all the doubters wrong. Prototype will be released in february of 09 and the actual vehicle will be sold during quarter 4 of 2009 according to SSC. If its true then chevy needs to look into it for the volt.

Yeah, but something tells me that the Ultimate Aero will rape the Viper on a circuit.

ya i think so too, the hennesey is a monster for a production based car but this is a race car with plates on it. Rumor has it that hennesey is comming out with a concept car like the aero and the new tt viper will have in the area of 1150 horsepower.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Hennesey Viper isn't classified as a production car.

the viper doesn't stand a chance with this thing...not in a straight line and definitely not on a circuit.

BTW did anyone catch that part in the video where Leno asks about the fuel economy of the car? Shelby says if you drive it normally the 32gallon tank will give you 600+ mpg but if you get on it those same 32 gallons will last a little over 7 minutes, he said thats about a gallon every 15 seconds!! fkn crazy!!

I like how Jay actually "drives" the cars, instead of just cruising.

in one of the shots where he gets on it you can hear the tach bouncing off the rev limiter...does this car even have a rev limiter?

Look at my post above yours.
EDIT: Nevermind, that says redline, not rev limiter. I'm sure it has one though, I too heard him bounce it.

well it is a viper just like any other viper that you buy from the dealer then you take it to henessey and he tunes to his specs. The ssc is a hand built race car that is street legal. If you know what i am getting at.
