This is what went down......
So I went and had my car smogged. I have Jet hot LT's and a texas speed 3" catted Y pipt on it.
I passed all the visuals (the tech didn't really know what he was lookin at) and when the readouts for emissions came through I passed everything...... except for HC. The max at 15 mph is 51 and I had 66, then at 25 mph max is 35 and I had 55. WTF.
Any thoughts on this. Everything else was perfect except for the HC. I had just read something about old fuel not burning well possibly being the culprit. Anybody got some thoughts on potential fixes to this.
Thanks

Yeah, I ws thinking that after driving it for maybe another day or two on the highway to work and back that it might make a difference.
I was soooo f***in close. I was also thinkin of seafoaming the car too. Anyone know if that will reduce those emissions at all.
HC= Hydrocarbon

Yea you can pick it up at Autozone, usually in a blue box. Most say to go to the gas station near empty or below 1/2 at least, poor it in and then fill the tank with 91 octane so it mixes.
I did this to one car that wouldnt pass, put it in told the guy id be back in 15 min and to have the dyno clear and ran the **** out of it, drove it right on the dyno and it passed with flying colors!

no seafoam will not make you pass with no cats.
First is your car tuned? becuase high hydrocarbons come from unburnt fuel making it way past the your cats.
So one of two things is happening
1) your aftermarket cats arent causing the unburnt combustion chamber fuel to burnoff completely
2) no tune meaning that since your exhaust if flowing better than stock more than likely you car is running rich.
When ^^^^^^ DAN said that he drove the **** out of it, this heats the cats up allowing them to better remove all unburnt fuel and then allowing him to pass with his hydrocarbons.
If your going to use seafoam, there are a couple of ways to use it
1)put in the gas tank (usual works ok and catches the injector in the "cleaning" process
2)can be put in a 1/2 bottle at a time into your oil, right before (50-70miles) an oil change to help remove sludge
3) (this is what I would recommend) You can suck it in through your brake booster vaccum hose. This method give the engine a more concentrated dose, and better cleans the intake tract and the combustion chamber along with the valves.
The method is to drive the car till normal operating temp (10-15min)
Then turn the car off pull the brake booster vaccum line
Turn the car on while plugging the line with your finger/thumb (buddy time)
now slowly remove you finger from the line, the rpm's should increase as the engine is now getting more air.
Use the suction from the line to suck in about 1/2 can of seafoam (doing this correctly you can kill the engine by pouring more right at the end to flood the engine and kill it ) **if you cant kill it by pouring have a buddy shut off the engine right after the 1/2 can is in .
Let the car sit for 15 min. plugging the vacumm line back in to original location.
Start the car (maybe difficult) and take for a spirited drive.
Laugh at how you just filled your neighborhood with white smoke.
Any questions?

I was gonna go the break booster rout anyway, but I got one question:
How long after I do this should I take the car to get smogged? Should I give it till tomorrow to go, or after I cloud the neighborhood up with a nifty smoke screen should I then "drive the **** out of it" and go right to the smog check?
Thanks.

I would think you would be fine after about 15-20 miles after the smoke stops. then drive the **** out of her. and go get her tested again. make sure you get right on the dyno/test machine , no cool down time preffered
good luck
