Default serious idle problem, help needed asap please!!!

i was comming home yesterday on bristol and i went to slow down, cars stopped in front of me at the light and my rpms jumped up to 3 grand and stayed there.
my car would NOT stop, i was standing on my brake and shes lurching forward, thank god i have a line lock or i wouldve hit someone. i put her in park and it stayed at 3 grand, NUETRAL - FIVE grand. WTF is wrong?? i checked everything i could think of and i cant find anything wrong with it. i limped her home and went out last night to check her and shes fine now, but im scared to drive it.

ideas?

edit - i need to move this from the western section, sorry

I just had someone tell me about the same problem. Did the computer throw any codes? i.e. SES light on?

i was gonna say the same thing...sometimes my pedal gets stuck the floor (im thinking its the throttle cable getting stuck or pulled down somehow)...its usually in 6th when cruising...i just hit/keep tapping the accelerator until it lets go...

throttle cable might have been stuck, as in a rock something, could also be an IAC solinoid but it will throw a ses code, or u have a big *** vacumm leak after the throttle body. first i would do is remove the intake and check out if the throttle body is moving freely and i would clean it with some throttle body cleaner.

in my eXperience...if im in 6th and im barely tapping on the gas, the accelerator gets stuck...i dunno if its the cable or what...but sometimes it even accelerates like ur flooring it, but the pedal it FN stuck...I mean...it only happens once in a blue moon, but it does happen...i dont really have a for sure explaination why, i can only tell u what happens...

she did it again, this time idling at 1500 in drive, i put it in neutral and she jumped to 3 grand, put it back in drive and tapped the gas and she settled down. im not understanding how it could go to a much higher rpm in neutral?

i had this problem in my malibu, i had an after market billet tb and sometimes the blade would not close all the way and would cause my car to idle at 2k in drive and at 4k in N

inspect the TB first

well the only way it would idle higher in N is because something IS stuck giving it gas.

Damit brynnda it's either you tb or your cable getting stuck its not an idle issue since your car can't be @ 5k without a significant amount of air going in. Unless you have a heavly ported high performance idle air control valve lol.
