Default Do you need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter in Cali?

My wife was wanting one and I didn't know. In Florida, I drove a Vespa for a gig and as long as I had a valid DL and it was under a certain CC I was cool.

Not sure if it is the same out here since there are M1 and M2 licenses... Is there anything she can buy that she can ride just on a normal DL?

I know that in the past for anything considered a scooter you only needed a M2 but a true motorcycle you needed an M1, which also covers scooters.

Now that being said I remember that about a month ago I was looking on DMV site and I think the whole scooter designation thing might have changed.

And so as far as things she could drive/ride would be a car and in some cities a go-ped thats under 50cc

yeah u have to be on the sidewalk and it has to be under 50cc's like hlaalu said. Just tell her to try and get the M2 license. I don't imagine it being that hard.

We'll just both go get M1's then and be done with it... Sidewalk though? I thought you couldn't even ride a bicycle on the sidewalk.

sidewalk or bike lane i think. you just can't drive on the street because it won't have insurance. or are you getting scooter insurance?

You gotta have insurance, tags, license, minus the smog.lol I just went through it all with my g/f's scooter. You even have to take it to dmv and do the driving test and inspection.
