Default turbo kits?

just curious, is it hard to make turbo kits for certian cars, cuz I saw one today that made me think I could make a pretty nice one. I just have never seen it done. I understand the how a turbo works bascially. Why has no one ever tried it?

I've built a couple kits, have plans on a few more. There's a lot of little details that all add up and can make or break a kits efficency. Its not Hard to do, but its not easy to do well. I'm still learning what works in certain situations.

well I have been looking at the cheapest way to get power, and still be legal. I came to the conclusion that if I do a head and cam that out of the question. So I have been looking at FI set ups, and I come across a STS set up in the classifieds for 3100. I saw another one for 2800 but this one looked home maked and the guy said it was good for 1000hp, I could make the same thing better.

SC is just to damn expensive but that is what I really want. If I ever get a test only it would be easy to make it pass

I dont know if there are any copy write laws but I was thinking I could just copy an system form a well known company.

copyrights or patents only apply if you plan on reselling the kit. There is no law that prevents you from building something for your personal use.

Yeah if I made a kit it would be for me. Do you think it would be worth it or would it cost about the same as a used kit.

Cheapest way to get enough power to destroy your stock drivetrain is N20. boltons + nitrous = 475+RWHP and 500RWTQ

even with a custom turbo kit it wont be emissions legal, if you want to be completely legal and fast, you might want to look at a vortech supercharger kit, they dont have quite as much potential but the will definitely move with breaking emissions laws

from what ive heard/seen, you can do a turbo kit if you know how to weld. people have been known to take factory exhaust manifolds, and flip them over, and then use stock flanges (cut off the y-pipe) and weld new piping to the turbo, then from the turbo down to the down pipe. if you have skill its doable, but keep in mind that you need to change stuff like injectors, computer tuning, and more than likely a rear end. i dont see you spending less than $2k, even if you do all of the welding yourself.

the cheapest power would be H/C, gears, Nitrous.

What's my mistake? My car is running but not streetable yet just like ryan's. My car is still faster than yours without boost . Take in mind my only mistake is spending most of my money on my car with a fucked up economy.

carbonfiberbird the cheapest way to turbo is doing a truck manifold kit, But like ryne said it won't be emissions legal. depending on your hp goal you might have to do a fuel pump and injectors and don't forget a speed density tune. I got deep with my build and did my entire drivetrain and complete fuel system. I doubt my boosted ls1 will last but my intentions are to push it till it blows just like camarojunky.

I was looking at prochargers and you can buy just a super charger for 750 with no plumbing. The plumbing on that should be cake.
