what is a 17,000 mile LS1 engine worth?
I have a friend interested in buying my 2002 LS1 engine out of my car with 17,000 miles. It runs awesome, no leaks, good compression. I am building a 418 LS3, so I do not need the LS1.
This is what will be included:
Long block w/ 241 heads equipped with slp 1.85 rockers & comp 918 springs.
Ls6 intake and ported stock throttle body
Injectors with fuel rails
Stock balancer
Included but not installed:
Comp 224/228 cam(new)
Tsp hardened push rods (new)
LS2 timing chain(new)
LS6 exhaust manifolds with cats(3,000mi)
Need some opinions on what good price would be for this package?
Thanks

Some folks are crazy over the aluminum LS series engines and with the low miles, you may be able to get a good premium for it. I would say $2500 tops is what I would be willing to pay for everything. Good luck.

I'm saying that is what I would pay; someone else might pay a bit more. The reality is that you can get a rebuilt 6.0 longblock with a warranty for just over $3000. The LS designation and the aluminum block would not be enough for me, or most people, to spend the extra money on a used engine. If you want to know what it will sell for, put it up for sale and see what happens. That is the ONLY way to "know" what it is worth.

If you want a real answer.....look at what the market is actually selling them for. Go on Ebay, search word "ls1 complete" and that will help you a little. Be sure that your search parameters indicate that you are wanting to look at already SOLD items. Not just items currently listed with buy it now offers and junk.

You might be able to better then $2500 if the person actually comes out to your house, test drives the engine and can see the odometer, run a compression test so they really know it has that low of miles. In this case you should get $3000+.
I personally never trust people when they sell low mile engines that are already pulled because people are just not honest anymore. I'm not talking about you, just in general. Good luck

i had 31k miles on mine, out if an 02 SS, ls6 block/intake with dual titanium springs, otherwise stock. sold it from pan to intake with rails and TB for 2000.. you can price it high where a small market will be interested, or a medium that makes you happy and appeals to many buyers.. these forums are overloaded with people buying JY motors, and people selling low mile fully forged motors for 4-5k..so anything to much north of 2k isnt to realistic, although we feel its worth it

You might just want to wrap that thing in plastic then because GimmeLSx and 99Custom are spot on with their replies. I feel the same way. When you can buy 'w/ warranty' engines for a $3,000+ price, not many will gamble with a used engine in that same price range. The mileage is outstanding and it would be a very desirable engine to many, but it has to be priced right to eliminate the gamble. I've seen an air cooled Porsche 911 engine destroyed with just 3,000 miles on it. Most everyone here has seen a similar story. The gamble is real to any potential buyer.
You decide. Remember that you are selling to your friend. Treat him right. Good luck!
