99 FRC Corvette, 107k miles
KBB is $9,500 but I know that's not really accurate. It looks like a clean car. He said $12,600 is his bottom dollar. Is this a fair price with those miles?

Nice looking car for that mileage. I think the better deals are in the 60K and lower mileage range. I like what this owner did in trading into a Z06. You can pick up a 20K-35K mile 2002 Z06 in the $21K-$24K range.
80K extra miles ($650x8) plus 3 model years difference (3x$650) and then the Z06 option (+$2K to $4K?). That's roughly +$9K to +$11K vs. the '99 FRC. So I guess the price is not that far off in comparison. Someone might come up with different numbers.
I wouldn't want the $5K loan hanging over my head if that's the price of going with a Vette over a Camaro/Firebird. Don't they make a ton more Vettes than F Bodies? So 107K mile Vettes aren't exactly the hot ticket. There's not much HP difference between the '99 Vette and a '99 Z28. The ride/handling quality is no doubt better in the Vette...at the expense of less interior room. The 2000 and earlier M6's (Vette's included) if still stock could mean less options for transmission fluids due to the paper lined blocker rings. Less worries for the 2001/2002 carbon blockers. Are the FRC Vette's similar to the non-TTop F Bodies where demand is far less?

I've just always wanted a Corvette, but it would either have to be an FRC or z06. I have a buddy who works at a dealership that thinks he can get a decent FRC with 100k ish miles in the 10k range. If I can find something like that i'm going to have to go that route.
There just really isn't a comparison between f-bodies and Corvettes in terms of handling or the way it rides. Not to mention it looks wayyyyy cooler.

Having an outstanding loan on a 100,000+ miles used car is risky financially. You know the car will need things. No doubt about it. Now you have repairs and a loan payment. Not a good situation. Be careful.

You're right. I should probably just buy that mint 96 SS that I posted in the other thread. Then I will have money left over and maybe 5 years down the road just get a Z06.

Tires are more expensive for the Corvette
If you have to change the clutch it is a much more involved job
The Corvette rides better and handles better. However, they made much more of them than F-bodies so to find low mileage very good condition examples is easy compared to a WS6 or Z28.
NC01TA is wise.

Consider finding an LT1/LS1 with the heads/cam package you already want. Then the previous owner gets to pay for nearly all of it, rather than you. I'd be interested in hearing other's opinions who have bought a number of modified LT1/LS1 cars over the years and if they had enough bad experiences that they would never do it again.

With no experience doing engine work, I'd just assume Do it myself and learn. I have a buddy on here that has the Lloyd elliot cam package so I'll probably have him help me out. Can't wait to pick it up. I'll post a bunch of pics!
