as much as I hate to say it, around 11-12k. 98s are going dirt cheap right now.

Figure a 15K mile 2002 WS6 at $18K to $20K. Subract $3K for the 4 model years difference and another $4K-$5K for mileage. So $11K-$13K. And probably not an easy sell because of the 70K miles. If the car were essentially superb in all respects for a '98 with this mileage and needed nothing, it could pull $13K (nice tires, nice top, no door cracks, etc.)....but that's around what I see some 2002's with <70K miles being offered at. For $14K you can find a 40K-60K mile 2002.

I'm not really sure where you are coming up with your numbers? KBB puts the vehicle (if still at 70k) at $6,859 in excellent condition, Edmunds signifcantly lower at $5,910. Now this is an enthusiast site, so you could probably get more than that... but I don't see $11k-$13k happening. FWIW there is local 98 Trans Am 6MT with 84k asking for $7,500 on craigslist.

For clean WS6's with good original paint (often seen on 70K mile cars that were garaged) I think it's hard to snag a fairly unmodified one for under $10K, especially a smooth shifting M6 w/o problems. The WS6 brings $1K-2K more than a Trans Am even with this mileage and probably $2K more than a Z28. Edmunds you can toss in the trash as it's not much more than a dealer tool to buy dirt cheap. KBB is a little better but it doesn't give enough allowance for either low mileage vehicles (5K to 50K) or VERY clean ones with higher mileage (55K to 100K). You can find Trans Ams, Z28's, and SS's fairly cheap with higher miles. WS6's and Firehawks haven't quite gotten there. While you can occasionally snag one from a clueless seller, the demand for decent WS6's is very strong. Though, I would agree that rather than a 70K mile car, the better value typically lies with the 15K to 45K mile cars where you can often pay relatively little for the mileage premium (ie "free" miles). Off-hand, I'd say KBB is at least $2K low on their "excellent" 70K mile WS6 for $6,859....maybe even $3K low. Things is, there are very few "excellent" 70K mile WS6's. Those cars should look and drive like your typical 50K mile cars.

13 Trans Ams/WS6's nationwide on the autotrader.com with <75K miles and <$10K. Only 2 WS6's, one of which has customized graphics - 2000 M6. The other is a modified 1999 A4. You don't see any 2001/2002's going for <$10K here. And most of these Trans Ams are priced closer to $10K than near KBB. So if you want the only listed M6 WS6 with <75K miles for under $10K on the national auto trader, you need to head to New Mexico to buy it. If you don't mind jumping over to the Chevy there's another 26 cars that meet the criteria (39 total Pontiac and Chevy).

I'm not saying I'd pay $11K to $13K for this car. That's just a price range. But someone might pay it. My limit would probably be around $10K. I know where there's an apparently clean, 30K mile 2001 WS6 A4 for $12K. So why would I pay the same money for a '98 WS6 with 40K more miles? The photos and description provided for the '98 make it sound like it's a very clean car. It could be the equivalent of your typical 50K mile car. I know people that have paid over $10K for "common" WS6's with over 100K miles. It really comes down to the particulars. In the 50K-100K mile range there are so many variables on condition that each car has to be evaluated on its own. A particular 100K mile car might be a better deal than the 50K mile car for the same money. I passed on a black, 1 owner 2001 WS6 M6 with 31K miles 2 years ago for $10,500. Why? The car was thrashed. It looked like 131K miles. I wouldn't have bought that car for $9K (needed a full paint job, carpet, front seat covers, undercarriage cleaned, new tires, brake and front end work, etc.). The Car Fax and maintenance history on that car was horrific.
