Default 2000 z28 value in 20 years?

So my friend just purchased a 00' silver z28 auto w/ground effects and only 30,000 miles for $8500. The car is in immaculate condition. He thinks that in 20+ years that it will be worth big money(25k+) if he stores it, and keeps the mileage low. I don't think it will gain much value at all since its just a base model z28, and will have around 40-50k on it by then. Discuss.

It'll take longer than 20 years in 20 year it wont be collectible at all in fact it will prob be at the bottom of its depreciation curve.

Just IMO, but only in the past 2-5 years have the 78-81 Camaros gained value (the years where the power actually went up after the mid 70s but before it went back down in the early 80s) and those cars are almost 30 years old. And that has only been a marginal increase. There are some exceptions of cars in amazingly good condition "like new" that have bucked the trend and have gained quite a bit of value, but usually only with cars with very low miles (30,000 or even less) and 100% stock.

I don't think it will be worth much in 20 years, 30 years...possible. And that is only if he NEVER drives it starting now and doesn't touch it. Being that it's not the theoretical top dog of its year since its not an SS means it has to be in amazing condition for it to be collectible, again my opinion.

In fact, I think the release of the 5th gen will really make the value of the 4th gens plummet for the next few years, and actually accelerate the appreciation of the 3rd gens...its a slow process, but the 3rd gens have finally hit bottom and are slowly becoming worth more again.

It will be after the 5th gen run is over before the 4th gen ever appreciates again...

Did anyone in the late 60's think their cars would be worth thousands and thousands of dollars? No, if so everyone would have bought one and put it in storage.
If anyone here can predict the future let me know because I have some lottery tickets to go purchase.

You need slightly more than 20 years for proper appreciation. The turn 'back up' after the down years will just be starting for MINT collectible examples. I voted for the $12k area in 20 years since that is what you asked, and possibly $25k for MINT examples in 30 years. V8's will be quite scarce most likely and car collectors will certainly appreciate a fine LS1. It is WAY different than the meek power plants of the late 70's and 80's. It is not a good example to compare. Corvettes from that era also sell for zip today but today's high HP Corvettes will sell strong.

Hard to say, find the right buyer and it will. By nature cars depreciate. The original Camaros now that is a whole nother story. If he's looking for a REAL investment buy some land in Costa Rica or something. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed.

i dont think everyones looking at the big picture....i see more and more f bodys crashed crushed or ragged on beyond repair all the time theres only gonna be very few survivors that are original (face it everyone on here has stuff done to there car) and i think tht just scarcity is gonna drive them up and plus inflation? stuffs gonna cost more in the future anyways as in cars are gonna be worth more just as in the late 60's when an ss cost a couple grand new....im voting for more value

IMO, in 20 years it will be worth $4 - $5k at best. Simply not worth it.

The reason the first gen camaro's and that era muscle cars gained value is COMPLETELY different then what your 00 Z will be in 40 years.

Your 00 Z will be just a car. The 1st gen's gained value because everyone in the era in which they were new cars wanted one, and most had one. Almost everyone drove a nice bigblock V8, went and hung out with his car buddies every night etc. They all sold their cars, and now 30 - 40 years later, they look back and go, i wish i had my old car again. Think im going to buy and build one.

Simple fact is that a '00 Z28 doesnt have anywhere near the appeal that car does. These days, an '00 Z28 is nice, but with all the emissions laws, new restraints on racing etc. Most people (Except the people on thsi board ) want a car based on fuel milage, safety, etc. So yeah, some people will look back and want the 00 Z they had in high school, but the simple fact is, not nearly as many as peopel who want a '69 so its never going to be near teh value.

As for thirdgen appreciation. Definately going up. in 2005 i bought my '89 Iroc-z for $1800. Good shape, rust free, needing paint and a tune up. Now, a '89 iroc-z in the same condition, will sell for $3k any day of the week. Yeah, not much of a gain, but they have started going up. A mint thirdgen you could pick up for $4k a few years ago, now their $7k+

It will be next to worthless in 20 years. The price of gas, hybrids, electric car etc. Tell him to drive it and have fun. If he wants to make money invest, don't buy a car and expect to make money.

I think the 2000 Camaro Z28 is the new 69 Camaro. Period.
