Default Snow Tires?

Okay so I took a road trip up to Indy this past weekend. There was a little bit of snow on the ground in a McDonalds parking lot. As soon as i pulled in and turned the corner I completely spun out. I barely gave it gas. Scared the **** out of me. The car is my DD. I was going to buy a truck for the winter but i dont have the extra money. Will snow tires really help out, or is it just a waste of money. If you have snow tires, tell me how well they work, and if they are worth it.

Winter tires definitely help a lot. Not only do they help with traction, but also stopping and turning as well.

A little weight in the trunk area will help as well.

What kind of snow tires would you suggest? I'm guessing you would want to get them all the way around then for stopping and turning.

I have Blizzaks and they are great. I might have some steel rims available soon.

Yes snow tires help out alot on a Camaro. I had the Blizzaks LM22 first and then got the Blizzaks LM25 - both were 255/40/17 in size (you could also get the 245/45/17 if needed)

The LM22 are H rated and the LM25 are V rated. They are amazing on the snow.

If possible - get the LM25 - much better then the LM22 - I noticed the difference right away. The LM25 are better on dry pavement (when it's really really cold - like -15C or lower). As for driving in the snow - both are about the same.

Just a note - these Blizzaks are performance winter tires and require a 8.5-10 inch wide rim.

Thumbs up

Haven't driven my fiance's car in the snow yet, but we have the Goodyear F1 All Season on her car and they are really good in the dry/wet pavement.
They are supposed to be an all season tire.

All season tires don't compare to winter tires. I get better traction with my Blizzaks on my Camaro than I do with my Suburban or Cherokee with all seasons.

Yes, SNOW TIRES make a bit difference - get the Goodyears, just like the F1 D3-G1 (or whatever my 275/40/17s summer tires are called!), they are worth it!

When I upgraded my rims to 2002 WS6 17's I put snow tires on the stock 16's - no muss, no fuss - 15 mintues with a jack and the impact and I'm ready for snow!

i just installed firestone winterforce's on my car last week, man did it help with traction. i heard somewhere that the skinnier the tire the better. i went with 215/60R16 and it seems to have plenty of traction in the snow/ ice. by the way i only paid $72 a piece for them brand new

I have run the same tires for years now. Previously I had blizzaks, and Dunlop snow tires and the Winterforce tires work just as well in the snow but they are way cheaper. Mine are all on 16x7" steel wheels. 215/60's. I also have a
Vid of driving in the snow.
All this video was taken during a snowstorm where we got about 10" of snow.

my parents are being retarded and they keep saying that i cant spend money on my car until i get it paid off. that means no exhaust, tires, rims, or lowering kit. Its so stupid, i want to move out so bad, but dont want to throw away the money. i guess im just gunna have to work my *** off and pay it off. They said i have to drive the back-up car for the winter. its a P.O.S dodge Intrepid with about 140K and runs like ****, sometimes it doesnt even shift out of 2nd gear. i had to drive all the way to work one time in 2nd gear. i was like 10 minutes late. but i guess its better than wrecking the Camaro, plus it will be stored in the attached garage.

In all honesty, 2-3 years from now, if you still have the Camaro, and it's still in really good shape because you didn't trash it by driving it through the winter, you'll be a lot happier....trust me!

yeah i guess your right. I plan on keeping it for a long time, car payments suck. When it finally dies, my dad and i will probably just rebuild it. Either that or get a GTO, something more practical that i can fit more people in it comfortably.
