i know they have a big lip but the off set is 17x11 why do they stick out so much if they are 17x11's?is it the lip? I has 17x11 with 315's and didnt stick out like that. what all needs to be done to narrow a rear end?I really want to do this to my car.thanks guys and sorry I dont know much about this dept

Your wheels aren't custom. The lip is different on his wheels because he has a narrowed rear, the bigger lip is there to accommodate for how much he narrowed the rear. That's why when he put it on his stock rearend they stuck out a lot. And to narrow your rear you have to use shorter axle tubes/axles, the amount is up to you. So unless you can narrow your rear the 17x11 TT2 lip is all you can have to work with.

17x11 is not the offset, 17x11 is the the Diameter vs. Width of the wheel. It is the back spacing(offset as you call it) of the wheel that effects the wheels placement in the wheel well. backspacing is the measurement from the inside edge of the wheel to the mounting flange of the wheel. It is possible to have the same 17x11 wheel with numerous different backspacing combinations, yours don't stick out because they were ordered correctly according to to the factory width rearend that is in your car.

For example: I have 15x10 bogarts for the rear of my SS. to make a 15x10" wide wheel fit correctly with a factory width rearend on our cars you need a wheel with 7.5" of back spacing. I decided that I wanted a "deeper dish" so I ordered a MWC fab9 rearend that had been narrowed 3" per side, thus giving me the opportunity of 3" of extra dish to the wheel vs the standard setup.
When I ordered wheels I now had to order a 15X10" wheel that had a 4.5" backspacing, since the rearend is narrowed 3" this put the outer edge of the wheel in the same location a stock but gave me TONS of extra dish.

If I were to put a the standard 7.5" BS wheel on the rear of my car now it would sit inboard 3" and look ridicules, on the same note if I was to put my custom 4.5" BS wheels on the back of a factory width F-body they would not have enough BS and would stick out 3" past the quarter panel and look like something you might see driving through the barrio.

Hope this helps you put it into perspective.

The best time to narrow your rear end is when you replace it with a aftermarket unit. It's no extra cost and will be done correctly.

I just bought a rear yesterday and suppose to be 2" per side . Do you have the flange to flange measurement from your rear So I can double check mine and if mine is 2 what offset should I order with the 12" wide wheel? What is the widest tire that will work with bfh/bumpstop/rolled fenders?I appreciate your help. Thanks

I have the measurements laying around in the garage I believe. Your wheel / Tire combo is going to be dependant on you.

I would install the rear end and then measure how you want the wheels to fit & sit. I did it the oppsite and had to order another set because I didn't like how the wheels sat in the fender.

The rule has been 2'' off each side of the rear end means 2'' off the stock backspacing but that run didn't work for me and my wheels were tucked too much for my liking. I ended up with a backspacing for a rear end cut almost 3'' on each side to have my wheels sit with no rubbing issues and no clearance issues.

17x11 with 5.75 backspacing since my rear was cut 2'' each side. (didn't like how they tucked)

So I measured instead of following the rule and these sit to more of my liking and are 1'' wider then the previous set. No spacers, No tricks Just ordered another set of wheels with different offset

So TOMZWHEELS is apparently out of business now.

Any recommendations for a place to order custom wheels like this?

Also, has anyone tried to get a very narrow set of front TT2 wheels, like 17x4?

Thx.

Summit Racing can order them. You could also try discount tire or any American Racing supplier.
