Default Quick front tyre question

I know questions like this must have been asked a million times, but im at my wits end and need to get new tyres.

Bought a set of wheels for my 93 T/A all four=
18x9.5J ET45. Had to run a 5mm spacer though up front to clear the calipers.

Wheels fitted great and had no problems with rubbing etc after the front spacers were fitted but the problem came later with the front two wheels.

The wheels have a deep chrome aluminum insert lip, and the tyres fitted up front were 235/40's!! Extreme stretch!! Thought they would be ok and i could change them for somthing a bit beefier at a later date, but the aluminium insert lip seems to have became damaged from just day to day driving. Guessing its due to the stretched rubber not fully covering the rim.

To get to the point, ive bought two new wheels but am now unsure what tyres to fit to them.

I want them to fit without being stretched onto the rim, and i dont want any clearence issues. The car is running on Eibach pro-kit springs.
I also dont want to end up with a high profile tyre up front compaired to the rear.

The rear tyres are 265/35's i was thinking of running up front 255/35's?? Sound ok to everyone? Just want to avoid buying tyres that scrub or cause problems again, not the brightest with tyre sizes.

Thanks
paul

Paul,

Is there any reason for wanting a staggered look? You could easily run 265/35's on all four corners.

If you're set on having different sizes front and rear, I'd suggest using the 265/35 up front and 275/35 in the rear. That will give you a 0.3" height difference (sidewall will be 0.15" taller on the back).

You also need to mind the ABS sensor. If the diameters of the front and rear tires differ too much, you will set the sensor off. With the above combinations I suggested, you shouldn't have an issue.

Cheers,

Adam

I staggered them because i diddent think there would be that much clearence up front for a tyre that wide, even on full lock i would have thought a 265 would have rubbed. So even with the offset i have a tyre of 265 shouldent be an issue?

Also i used to have a car with 255's up front, (a ricer though)
Handled like a dog, tramlined and steered towards every bump in the road!
Take it the t/a shouldent suffer from this?

It all comes down to what offset you have. Do you know what it is? I know that people are running 295/35/18 with Corvette Z06 offsets with little to no rubbing. I myself have 275/40/17 in the front with no problems whatsoever. The big tires do seem to follow the grooves in the road more, but there is no doubt that the car handles better. I still think you should put the 265s up front and go with 275s in the back - assuming your offsets will allow it.

Hehe correct, bit of a language barrier
So before i order these up, is everyone in agreement that if i get a pair of 255/35's and fit them to the front wheels which are 18x9.5J with an offset of 45 + 5mm spacer. That they should fit with no problems and not cause any problems with ABS running alongside the same size rear wheels fitted with 265/35's?

Just want to replace the front tyres (tires) for now will maby upgrade to wider rears when moneys a bit better.

Cheers
