i want to run 17 x 9.5 and 17 x 11 (50mm) zr1's on my 01 ss. i know the fronts will fit fine but with the rear i want either the mickey thompson dr's 315/35/17 or BFG KD's....i am on stock suspension so it is rather high up, other than grinding the bump stop will i be ok with fitment? thanks

Hey guys I will be buying ccw's 505a's 18x10 F and 18x11 R now they told me at CCW that 275/35 up front and 295/35 KDW2's out back would be a good choice,But after seeing pics of other people with 18x11 with 295's it seems the 295 is too narrow that it curves in a bit.I was wondering could I go a step up like say 285 up front and 305 in the rear without any modding I'm at stock suspention also any feed back will be greatly appreciated and also pics would be nice also Thank you fellas.

You don't even need to grind the BS. The only thing is yuou can't mount the wheels with the axle hanging.

If I run 18x10 in the front and 18x11 in the back, I was looking at the KDW2's and they have the 295/35ZR18 for the back but they have the 285's only in a 40. Would it be fine to just go with the 275/35ZR18 in the front with the 10" wheel? Thanks as always!

I would not run a 285/40 front and a 295/35 rear . . . that would make the front tire taller than the rear . . .

Alright, thats what I figured but just wanted to make sure since thats the only height the KDW2s came in for 285. 275 it is!

I have Y2k vette wheels with the 18s out back and 17s in the front.
Right now I have the following: 245/45 R17 275/40 R18

I'm about to be replacing the tires, and I want to go with the 285s in the back. Would 285/40 be the correct size? I'm assuming it is b/c the tire calc. says it is the one with the lowest speedo offset.

Also should I keep the same size in the front even though I'm changing the rear? Will this throw the speedo off? Thanks for any help.

Ok folks, I read the FAQ and understand it's guidance. However, I have a slight problem.

I recently bought a 2000 WS6 and it needs new tires. My front wheels are 18x8.5 with about 56mm offset. The 255/35r18 Kuhmo tires are wearing horribly on both outside edges even at max inflation (44psi). This is the pressure the previous owner ran the tires at. The alignment is spot on. Normally, wearing on the outside edges even at max psi would tell me that the tires are too narrow for the wheel. However, 255 is the max width your guide recommends for 8.5 wide wheels. You can also imagine with such narrow wheels and such high offset, how very tucked the tires are.

My question is...is the 255 max width on an 8.5 wheel simply a tire wear recommendation, or is it a safety concern? If it's simply for tire wear, I definitely want to go with a wider tire so I can get the edges to pull down more and get better tire wear over the full tread width. Better looks will be an added bonus.

I appreciate any help you can give! I don't want to spend money on new tires and have them eaten up by improper tread wear!

Tire and wheel wicth are related. A 255 is just bout the widest recommended. for a 8.5" wheel.

If the tires are wearing abnormally, the alignment is off. Either that or you throw you car around corners like a mad man . .

Keeping your tires at max inflation is very wrong.

I don't know how the previous driver drove the car. He was a computer guy though and seemed like a slower driver to me. Wear is on the inside walls as well and at the same amount. Hard corning should mainly burn the outside edges up, right?

oem c6's on a z28. i have read through this thread and have seen conflicting advise on tire sizes. they are the 18x8.5, 19x10 combo. i know i have to run a 1.25 spacer out back. what size tires can i get to
a.) not mess up the abs
b.) fill up the wheel well decently.
stock suspension btw.

Typically hard corning only affects the outside corners . . .

wierd that both inside and outside wear . . . how fast you drive really shouldn't do that . . . is you air pressure gauge accurate?

Pressure gauge is accurate. It's been checked with one digital, 2 manual sticks, and 2 inline filler hose gauges. It's dumbfounded me as well.

Not really an issue anymore tho. Had a blowout this past weekend that threw the car into a curb. Destroyed 2 wheels and 2 tires. Gonna get the wheels I want now, and tires to go with it.

It could be because the previous owner was getting bad wear on the inside, so he rotated the tires to put more tread on the inside and the more worn part outward, then just wore down the 'new' inside.
