Default Nitto 315's compared to other 315's?

I've always heard that the Nitto DR 315's run smaller than other 315's. How much of a difference is it? Does anyone have any pictures?

Here this will answer your question

The left tires is a BFG 275/40/17.. And the right tire is a Nitto 555R 315/35/17

You can clearly see that the Nittos are narrower than the BFG.

Yeah that pic tells ya either BFG runs big or Nitto runs small...

When I get my OE C6 wheels I am going with the BFG g-Force KDW NT tires.

275/35 or 285/35 and havent yet decided on the rears yet. Either 295/35 or 305/35

if you look at the actual tread width and not the overall width the nitto is a lot wider. on the BFG, notice where the tread curves. that is unusable tread. now look at the nitto and you will see that that curve is not there

Yeah, but you realize the left is a 275 and the nitto is a 315 right? The 315 nitto is just a fuzz wider than a normal 275. My Cobra had nitto 315s on it, they looked gay. My BFG 315s look a LOT better.

Yea thats quite a difference. I just ordered the Nitto 315's today, i'm hoping they're going to be at least the same width as my 295's. If i'm not happy with them, then i'll go to something else i guess.

i do, but im saying with the BFG there isnt more tread than a normal 275 and with a nitto there isnt less than a regular 315, the overall width is just decreased

You can clearly see that the Nittos are narrower than the BFG.

take a look at how far the sidewall sticks out on the BFG compared to the Nitto too, and the amount of usable tread is greater on the Nitto as well. Those numbers measure the width of the usable tread, not the outmost part of the sidewall.

I bet money theres apprx. 315mm of usable tread on that Nitto and apprx. only 275 on that BFG.

Why so much hate on the Nitto's lately... I've been running them for a while, and I don't see how they look skinnier then any other tire I've run...

No stretch or anything akward like that... I'll try and get some pictures this weekend. 17x9.5 and 17x11, NT555RII's

I don't hate them. Been running Nittos on my cars ('97 Mustang GT and '02 Trans Am) for about 5 yrs now. Never once had a problem.

The BFG is a bigger tire, Nittos are narrower. Again you can see that the BFG 275 is just a tad smaller than the Nitto 315

yea, the nittos run a little small for a 315. I should do a comparison of Nitto 315s vs. another set of 315s like BFG's, M/T's, or Goodyears I suppose.

I just wanted to illustrate to people what exactly that number (315, 275) means, cuz I know a lot of people will look at the original pic and think the BFG is only a tad smaller than the Nitto, however, It is a sizeable difference in reality.

another factor to consider is if they are on the rim and inflated or not.

Yup you really should. B/C that comparisson pic shows that they are small for a 315 tire

Not sure about that type of Nitto, these are the NT01's and they are pretty damn big.. Left is 275, right is 315

i think its mainly the Nitto 555R that runs a little smaller. I seen a Nitto 555 campared to the 555R and the 555R was smaller.

Nitto width on a 315 555r is 12.13"
BFG Drag radial 315 is 12.4"

Nitto 555 is 12.56"

i think it all comes down to tread contact patch. even on those NT01's above, the main contact patch isnt nearly as wide as the actual tire, but since it's more of a road racing tire they have plenty of extra tread area before the sidewall for extending the contact during a turn. a 555R drag tire doesnt need all that extra contact area since it's a straight line tire. the overall tire width doesnt need to be any wider than the contact patch. it's just not necessary in it's intended use.

just my opinion anyways.
