I still have a set of sumis that only have like 2k miles on them, rotting in my garage. Those things were like driving on wooden barrels. They had about as much traction as I would expect a bicycle tire to get, and they were noisy as hell. Complete garbage. I used BFG KD's and they were great, NT555 and NT555R both are really good. My 555R's lasted about 12k and then I put the regular 555's on and liked those too.

Still, I'm pretty much decided that the Nitto 555 is the one.

Thanks for all the great input guys.
Read up on the NT 05, they are better than the 555R in every way. You can find them for about $209 ea. free shipping from http://4wheelonline.com/Nitto-NT05-M....137945.464133

NT555s. Used to have NT555Rs on the back. There was a thread around here where HSW measured and found that the regular 555 315/35/17 had an inch wider contact patch than the 555R in the same size.

For inexpensive tires, I'd concur with the Nitto 555 or NT05. The NT05 should have better dry performance but not sure about hydproplaning resistance. The Kumho XS gets wicked, scary, horrible reviews for wet performance - even on AWD cars, but it's better than the NT05 in the dry. Sumitomo sucks... cheap, small, and no traction.

NT555's here. Couldnt be happier with them, for a street tire. They do awesome in the rain, hook decent on the street, handle awesome. Great all around tire.

Great tires! Last a long time and don't get hard. Awesome traction on dry and wet surfaces.
