Question Torque Thrust II vs. 2.1

I noticed on some wheel vendor sites that the TTII is being discontinued and replaced with theTT2.1. So far the only difference I can find is the TTII is made in the U.S. and is a two piece aluminum wheel, while the TT2.1 is a one piece cast wheel made in China. Roughly the same price.

Has anyone seen any other information on these? Is the wheel weight comparable? Quality? Strength? I've done some searches but haven't found what I was looking for.

I'd like to know this myself as I recently had one of my wheels ruined and needing to replace, but if the rims are drastically different (weight wise), I might just go with a new set.

Ive seen a pair of 17x 9.5 up close and could not tell a difference between my set and the new set.

The weight seem to be the same and so did the quality. I did not know they were being made in china, I will see if I can get my hands on them again and post some pics.

I too ruined one of my wheels. Mine are 17x10 I think its 10. What size are yours and would you be willing to sell one? I have been looking for a used one. I dont want to spend the money on a new one.

When I was looking for wheels I did a search on the TTII and found out that the two piece wheels were forged in China and then shipped to the USA to be welded together. I believe that all of the Torq Thrust wheel variations are forged in China. I ended up buying TTM's and the quality is very good.

That raises another question, then. As I understand it, the TT2.1 is cast, not forged. So it still goes back to wondering how the weight and strength compares.

Makes sense that American Racing wheels would actually be made in China.

Unhappy

The majority of after market wheels are now made overseas, not the high end ones but the majority of the rest. The US will shut off all of the lights shortly in our manufacturing facilities forever...the only thing we make now is fast food.

I found a site that sells both the TTII and the TT2.1. I've emailed them asking for more info on the differences. I'll post up what I find out, if anything.

Most places just have one or the other, or say the 2.1 has replaced the II. The site I found has the 2.1 for the "standard" sizes, but lists the TTII for "custom" sizes so you can get any offset, etc. They are also available in the regular offsets, though.

Mine came in today, got em for $915 shipped with lug nuts and valve stems.

As for the weight one 17x9.5 TT2.1 weighs 20.3 lbs (without the center cap) according to my digital scale. I weighed it a few times and got the same result every time.

Hope that helps!

There's something seriously fucked with a company named American Racing having their product made in China...

Burns my *** up every time I see **** like this, which unfortunately is all too often these days...
