Need advice. Drag tire for a M6 9 inch car!!!
All right Iam finally pulling the trigger on a ford 9 inch. Right now the car has prostars front and rear. 15x10 in the back with a 275/50/15 Nitto DR on it and its lowered in the rear about 1 inch.
A couple people told me that being a M6 car I should really switch to more of a wrinkle wall type drag tire like the E/T street or the QTP. My issue is that I only have these wheels and I do like to take the car out on the street to local shows and drive it too the track. Its by no means a DD. So here are my questions
1. Iam leaning towards the 27x11.5x15 Hoosier QTP. Will it fit without any issues?
2. How well will it do on the street?
3. Do I need this type of tire or can just stay with a DR instead?

Interested in the responses you get- I am going to my first ever bigs/littles setup myself. I am starting out with the 295/55 M/T Drag Radials, and 165/80's up front. I almost went the hoosier route too though...I had concerned about driving it on the streets(though mine MIGHT see 1500 miles/yr).

I bought the MT ET Street Radials for my M6 / 9 inch setup when they were first released. The tires were very sticky but they were almost impossible to launch. After 2 seasons of trying anything to get a good launch I spoke with Mickey Thompson and learned that drag radials are not meant for manual transmission cars. They are not able to absorb the shock of 5k+ clutch dumps. My experience with drag radials with an M6 was that they would either bog or wheel hop. I ended up breaking 2 clutches, a driveshaft, and bending all of my wheel studs.
Since that time I have switched to the MT ET Street (Bias Ply) and I couldn't be happier. I get much better, less violent launches. I have driven them on the street without issue but I will warn you not to drive them if there is rain in the forecast. I once got stuck in the rain and it was probably the single most scary drive home I have ever had.
I hardly ever drove around with either tire on the street so I cannot comment on how long they will last.

Iv got a set of 325/50 Hoosier DRs and Im switching to an ET Street (bias ply) Like above, cant slip it enough to get a good 60ft and cant dump it and expect it to hold. They are a pretty big tire, I thought my cam only would work out great, but a bias ply is the winner for a Stick car!
I plan on driving mine a lot, just not in the rain obviously!
