2.5" GM wheel studs okay to use with Prostars?
I just bought a pair of axles for my 10 bolt with what appear to be 2.5" GM studs installed. They look just lke the stock studs ("metric 6177" stamped on the head) but longer. Will these be ok to use with my Prostars or are they too weak? Should I swap them out for ARP studs?
I wasn't sure if I should post this in this section or the gears and axles section, but my question is concerning how well they'll work with Weld Prostars so I posted it here.

Strength wise, they are fine.
Length wise though, it will depend on the tech guy. Had a few check, and I don't think the 2.5" studs are long enough with the thick ProStars.
I have the 3.25" ARP's on mine...looks stupid as hell when the TTII's are on the car.

I'm not worried about passing NHRA tech, just worried about them not being strong enough and shearing off with the Prostars on there. I know that the stock 1.5" studs (which look exactly like these studs but shorter) are pretty weak; I accidentally sheared one off with a tire iron that was cross-threaded, and I am not a strong guy.

I do not have a degree in Metallurgy but what I can say is ARP Fasteners are the shiz. IMO You should be using them if you plan on racing. The stud needs to protrude at least 1/4" beyond the lug nut (open ended lugs). So that it is ensured that all threads are engaged.
INCASE you need to shim the rim out, then will ensure proper fitment. IMO you should try it and see how much you get but if your only engageing 1/2 or less of threads, time to step up and go to ARP.

If I use 2.5" ARP studs on the back (like I have on the front) with my 15x8 Welds then am I looking at a real possibility of having them shear off? Do I really need to step up the the 3.25" ARPs to be safe? I've seen a few guys drive on the street with stock 1.5" studs on the back with Weld wheels (scary) but I plan to take my car to the track. It doesn't launch hard, low 1.9s.

Nope they aren't for the open shank lugnut man i just did the jegs ones an they broke and snapped off... Not to mention on 17inch wheels... Do the 3.250 ARP Wheels studs they are a little bit pricey, but they are much better an the will come out the head of the lugnut.
