Default Best 315/35/17 Tire for DD?

This past summer I traded my rear ZR1's for some 11's but the tires I have on there now are pretty old and one has a leak so I'm thinking its time to get some new rubber on the rear. I have BFG KDW, old tread, on the front now so I'd like to get something comparable in tread so I have been looking into the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2 but after reading reviews it seems like it'll hook really good at the track but won't last too long on the street. I would estimate I drive the car about 5,000 miles a year (Late March-Late October) with most of that being in town and some highway with about 1 trip to the track a year with a few passes. So I'm looking for a tire that will last me about two years until its time for me to get a newer car. So what are your experiences? Would the BFG DR's last me 7-10k or is there something that would better suit me? Btw I'm looking at tires around $200 each and under. Thanks!

Not a big fan of the BFG DR's. Look at the new Nitto NT05R's if you want a DR, or the NT05's if you want a street radial. I'm still convinced that my 315 BFG KD's were the best street radial, but they don't make them anymore.

The NT555R would be your best bet. With street driving they last around 10-14K and hook up decently at the track. I believe they are around $200 a tire as well. If you want to go cheaper go with the Sumitomo HTRZ. You can also find a few 335 series tires used on ebay from time to time.

You also can get the Kumho Ecsta XS for $198 at DTD, and the Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance for $194.

Yeah my step dad has the KD's on his 35th Anniversary LE SS and they're a nice tire. Have you had the NT05's? After looking into those I like the tread design and it looks like they have decent wear. Maybe not the best but pretty good.

I don't really want the Sumitomos. I know they are a pretty good tire for the price but they are quite a good as I'd like.

I was looking into the Ecsta XS. Have you had those on your car?

i have the kumos 315 35 17 there amazing but they really need to be warm to have any grip at all. with 411 gears I can spin threw 3erd when i first start out but if i warm the tires for just a few secs and then its just a chip in to each gear. they are amazing for auto cross really i am in love with the kumos

BFG drags are cheesy for the street, They must be made for the track or something, because there was zero grip on my car with them. I tried 315/35/17's and they sucked totally. I could spin them forever on the street, and thats with reduced tire preesure too. Spun them from a 50mph roll.

I got 5,000 out of them and as you probably know.....if it just drizzles outside....you'll be all over the place.

The next 315/35/17 tires I tried were GOODYEAR GS-D3.........they are AMAZING....look no further.
They hook great, WAY WAY better than the BFG drags did, night and day difference. No possible way I can spin them from say 35mph and slower. The wet traction is OUTSTANDING, I can't explain how good it is. Pure confidence driving in heavy rain. I use 275/40/17 Nitto 555 Extremes for the front tires..........they are just as good as the GS-D3 in the wet stuff...they grip great in rain. Handle very nice.

Under $200 though.........
I must say.....the last set of GS-D3's I had that were ready for the garbage....I needed new tires quick and couldn't find them and I was forced to get 315/35/17 Nitto 555 Extremes. They were cheap as hell, I think I paid like $155 each through my buddy at a dealership, special price through him.
But they are friggin great tires too man.......................all around great. Zero complaints. I think I have about 12,000 miles on them and they look great still, plenty of rubber left. But I'm not one that ever really burns the rear tires for the hell of it.

So it looks like Nittos of some kind. Either Nitto 555R's, 555 Extreme, or NT05's. Right now I'm leaning towards the NT05 as I like the tread design and they seem to be in the middle as far as wear and traction. Idk though.

I never understood people who think of "daily driver" and "drag radial" in the same sentence. Personally, I'd go with the NTO5 or Vrestein.

Only reason I thought of that is because there are limited choices for this size of tire and about half of them are DR's. I think NT05's will be the best option for me though.

Were running 315/35 Nitto 555s on the back of my wife's WS.6 and they are a pretty good street tire. Car makes 392rwhp for now, and they hold up pretty well to the abuse. They are also about an inch wider than the 555Rs in the same size. They look GREAT too!

Have you ever taken the SOM Bitch to the track? I only go about once a year, but just curious how they do there. Also, how many miles you have on them? I figure they would be fine on wear, especially compared to other DR's and the NT05's.

i found that the nitto 555r's are the best for me. They last along time and gripped really well at the track till i did my cam swap and they got worn down. Thats when i started blowing them off like nothing. When i get my 17's i am going back to the nittos all the way!!!

Did you have to do any mods to the car to get the 315's to go on? Those look great!

I am one of a group of 5 people that are running NT05's 315 35 17 (17x11 ZR1 replicas) on all 4 corners for autocross and street driving. The NT05's are pretty good for autocross and are good in the rain. The NT05 has a stiff sidewall for autocross / handling and the tread is not as soft as a drag radial.
One of the guys has around 8-9K miles on his tires with around 8 autocross events and his tires are completely bald. Another has around 15 autocross events and around 5K miles and his tires are completely bald. I have only around 2K miles on mine with 15 autocross events and the wear bars have some wear on them. If I drove my car in the rain, I would change the tires.

No, unfortunately never got it to the track with those tires on it. They do pretty well on the street though. Noticable different from the 275/40-18s that were on it before.

Wheels were widened to 11", and using a 1" spacer to clear. I did have to BFH the inner fender, but i didnt have to roll the fender lip.

They were widened to 11" in the rear. The tread measures 12", so i would never try to put them on the stock width wheels.

I would go with a 555R. I can't say for sure it would last the full 2 years you are wanting but it would come damn close and hook/drive well for that period of time IMO.

You think they would be that much better than the 555's for daily driving? Cause like I said, I go to the track maybe once a year and then the rest of the time I'm just on the street and its not like I'm street racing all the time.
