Default ok, so I f'ed up bought 215/60R16 for 16 X 8 Rims

So I know the Tire Rack max wheel width is 7.5, but I will loose my *** if I return them and my daughter could care less how retarded they look. With that said, how retarded will they look and is it a safety issue. Tire section width is 8.8 and tread width is 6.9. The section width is wider than many and i have read that is what matters (wheel width should not exceed 90% of section width). This is equivalent to putting a std v6 tire on a Z28 wheel. Comments appreciated.

A 215 should fit...some base model V6 fbodies came with that tire size on a 16x8. The optional size was a 235 tire.

Smart *** <grin>, I guess my experience does lend itself to me getting ripped on for this, but in my defense Tire Rack is kind of F'ed up in this area IMO, and dealing with tires for a V6 is out of my area of expertise and the car is not available for me to look at. Now, I should have figured there was a wheel/tire option for a V6, but since Tire Rack said OE size 1 and OE size 2, I figured you had two choices of tire for the same wheel. I'm surprised the car had the optional wheels since both tire sizes are so close. I made the wrong assumption that you could fit both tires Tire Rack listed on the same rim and this is where my assumption bit me in the ***. I wish Tire Rack would have said 215s for steel 16 x 7.5 and 235s for the 16 x 8 wheels, or at least OE size 1 and Optional size 2. I mean whats up with a .5 inch bigger wheel option anyway?

From Tire Rack's Web Page
Original Equipment Size 1: 215/60-16

Original Equipment Size 2: 235/55-16

End or rant!

Thanks for your reply, but not exactly true, that's what i thought and got bit in the *** by buying 215s. Yes V6s had 215s on the std wheel, but any other optional wheel (except SS wheel) got 235s.

So...am I ok here and how silly will it look?

Will be fine safetywise. Lookwise but they will be way tucked in.

JUst put some decent tires on it like a Toyo Proxes. As long as they don't rub. The stock Z28 wheels/tires were barely enough to hold the car.

You should be able to return them to tire rack.

Yes, but will loose $100 in shipping for my mistake. I guess I'm struggling with how 1/2 inch more will make such a difference.

is that $100 worth being unsatisfied with the look of the wheel? remember, you have to deal with it for the life of the tires. i would personally take the loss and get the tires that i want.

I have 235s on my stock 8" wheels and it looks extremely retarded. I wouldn't dare drive it in public with them, I just use them for setting the car on over the winter. Can't imagine a 215 on the same wheel.

OK, so I think I can live with this and I know my daughter can. 86 Iroc wheels were 16 X 8.

FWIW, the stock steel wheels that came with the 215's were 7.5" wide, not 8"...
