well so far ive got two rims sanded. Ones sanded all the way down to the metal on the lip the other just sanded smooth. Looking at the rims now and seeing some examples of the same rim, i might polish the rim after all. Would save on painting.

Saw these and thought i might do it in black

^ i agree... plus, i have seen some sick *** bimmer rims but knew the pattern was a bit different so i didnt buy them... i like to haul *** on the interstate and that just didnt sit well with me but lately, Ive read about people putting these rims on with no problems... I think i may give them a try.. when your ready to polish them... just lift the *** end of the car and put it in drive and polish them with a drill and polishing wheel... those things will look like mirrors in about 5 minutes.. i used to polish my old welds that way.. no effort whatsoever..

dude.. lift the *** end of the car.. put on a rim, put it in drive and use fine steel wool.. you can have all the lips done and polished pretty nice in just a couple of hours if not less.. once the steel wool is done use an aluminum polish cream and do the same thing.. i did this with an old set after watching a video on youtube where they polished semi-truck rims... try it.. i promise it will work..

i considered that, but first i gotta wet sand the aluminum to get it up to that point. i sanded the rims down to metal using 120 grit, up to 1200 and still gotta work my way up to 4000-6000 range to get it supper smoothe and ready for the wool, compound, and polish thing.

Yeah so far im workign on polishing the lips. working on the sanding portion fiirst. Sanding aluminum is weird. unlike sanding paint where you make it dull, sanding aluminum makes it shiny the finer the grit you use. it looks pretty bad *** already and i havnt even started to actuall polish it yet lol.

two rims prepped for polishing and paint. 2 to go. Even reworked the other rim that i was practicing on for polishing the aluminum. all the different colered spots in the aluminum are gone now.

All four rims are preped for paint and all lips sanded up to 600 grit so far. cant wait for paint.

This one was right before i finished the last rim today. .

Now working on polishing the rims up to 2000 grit until i get polishing compounds

Updates, polished one rim today to get a feel for it. I think this is gonna look great once i get them painted black.
Before polishing after i wetsanded them to 1200 grit.

first rim ive ever polished. Used white and blue compounds.

Might get a brown compound to speed up the cutting and polishing though. we will see.

Get a powerball & some Mothers aluminum polish, you'll thank me later. Stuff is awsome & will help it polish up like a chrome surface. Mothers is all I'll use to polish with personally.

I am doing this with a set of FM5's I got that were powder coated white. They will now be full polish. I am soooooo sick of sanding and polishing. Just have 2 center left to go
