look pretty good, would of used paint stripper on them though, learned that after my ws6 rims for my 85 ta. Sanding took way too long, and like you had a hard time getting off the clear where the lip meets the face. Looks like you may have went a bit heavy with the paint, but overall pretty darn nice.

I did them at the Auto skills shop on post. No spare ovens laying around however I will mention that to the Manager there as an idea. I also mentioned a media blaster too. Hes trying but funding is short even for MWR facilities. I think next time I might powder coat if i do do somthing like this again to rims with more then 6 spokes. I swear never again with mesh style rims unless someone pays me lol

I must admit, when I first started reading this thread, I didn't think they would come out to well.... but I was wrong! Your hard work has paid off, great looking wheels!

Yup I hear you, I hand polished some parts for my rear suspension. It took a long time to get them to mirror shine. I ended up powder coating the rest of the parts. Powder coating is tougher, and lasts longer, though it can still flake. I can't imagine doing what you did, that was definitely labor intensive for you, looks good though.

The media blaster is good too, and really any part your going to refinish almost always ends up needing some cleaning.

Thanks guys. Oh my god I would have loved a media blaster. The sanddown was a pain in the butt. My hands were alittle sore for a few weeks lol.
I did on the other hand power wash them with a steam cleaner set at a really high heat setting. That was nice cause it took the original clear coat right off. THen just scuffing and feathering the rims. The hard part was getting the lips down to bare metal then sanding up to polish.

actully they are original BMW center caps with the BMW emblem removed, painted over, and then a Black back ground with a red bird vinyl decal.

well the rims are holding up well. they still look good and hold up to washing in the car wash very well. still gotta repolish the aluminum lips to make em "pop". my new hood that i painted is doing good still.
