What the hell Nitto?
I bought a set of NT05s for the Z28 not even a month ago. I took them on a road trip so they have higher than normal miles on them for only being three weeks old. I estimate they have around 2300 miles on them. They are mounted on American Racing Torq Thrust M wheels; 17x9 front 17x10.5 rear. I have 275s up front and 315s out back. Just your normal set up. I purchased them and had them mounted, balanced, etc. at Discount tire.
This happened yesterday cruising at 75mph down the highway. It is the driver side rear 315.
I have yet to take these to the track. It does not inspire a whole lot of confidence...
Only the outside separated, the inside is still intact.
Let me know if you guys want to see more pictures.
Chris

I'm in the tire business.
Id like to see more pics especially close up, but it looks like the tire was driven on flat. Hence why the tire separated the way it did.
Any shavings of rubber laying inside the rim?

It wasn't flat, that is the first thing my dad said when he saw it too. It has to just be a defect since only the outside separated right?
I will check the date on it.

It was drove on flat from the pics you uploaded. I understand the other 3 have perfect air pressure. My guess would be a nail or foreign object protruded the tire during your commute to work, or like someone else has said you hit something and punctured the sidewall.
I'm using my phone so I can't see the pics 100% to see if you damaged the sidewall hitting something or if its all from driving on it.
I hope you bought some sort of road hazard, that is the only way your going to get a new tire imho.
Most Nitto's are USA made and I do believe all tires are tested before they leave the factory. They even have a garuntee about the balancing of their tires that if it takes 'X' amount of weight to balance and its not because of the wheel they will replace that tire or the tires. I don't see the tire having been a defect.

And because a tire was driven on flat doesn't mean both sidewalls would separate..all depends on the tire and how long the tire was driven on flat/how fast it was driven on flat.
I've seen some tires that don't separate at all, but they have a few cups of rubber shavings inside. Usually there will be an indentation around the tire that I like to call a 'death ring' because the tire is junk at that point. But I have also seen some tires that give no indication it was driven on flat, but you dismount it and there is shavings. A lot can happen in the world of tires.
I've had to dismount tires that were driven on flat where all that is LEFT is the 2 beads and they are still seated. The whole centersection and sidewalls are goneee and sitting on the side of the road somewhere..
