Default Strange Problem...See if you can figure this one out

When i bought my SS it came with torque thrust's that have toyo proxies that were the same size as stockers...i hated them so i bought 18" C5 Z06 rims..size 275/40/18...i use two of the wheels to drag race in so i dont burn up $800 tires...last year when i raced at atco i drove to the track with them on and had no problems at all...18's in the front 17's in the rear....now i was gonna go tonight to cecil county dragway so i put the 17's on last night.

Here's the strange part...

While i was driving to my girlfriends house in Delaware...everytime i would try to give it gas to either pass someone (not flooring it) or whatever as im doin like 55-60 the traction control would kick in as if the wheels broke loose and spinning...but they werent...i couldnt get the car over 65..couldnt give it gas...the pedal fought me the whole way around an on ramp....it was working normally doing its job but the wheels were not spinning out of control..so i had to drive with the ASR off...So today on my break i went home and put my 18" C5 Z06 rims back on and it didnt do it at all.

My guess is the rim size difference between the front and rear but why didnt this happen before??

Any help or opinons is appriciated!

Thanks Guys!!

So you had worn down 245's on the rear and 275's on the front?

The computer wouldn't know if the wheel diameters are different from front to back, only if the tire heights are different.

Technically it would because with a 17 in the rear and 18 in the front..the rear is spinning more revolutions because it's smaller..so the computer would think the car is going faster then it is...thats about the only thing I can think of

The OD of the front and rear tire is too great . . thus ABS is unhappy, and the computer "thinks" you've lost traction.

If you ran 275/35R18 and 275/40R17 tires then you could run them at the same time and not get the ABS compute upset.

That's a common problem when mixing/matching different tires on Corvettes. The computer is set up to see a certain difference in wheel speeds between the front and rear tires, since on 'Vettes, the difference in OD is 1".

To the best of my knowledge, ALL F-Bodies come from the factory with the same size tires all around. Therefore, beyond a small difference that's programmed into the PCM, to allow for varying rates of tire wear, or differences in tire manufacturers' ODs for the the same size tire, the PCM wants to see all wheels going the same speed, or the ACS will kick in.
