Default Z28 to SS wheels question

So I really dig the look of the SS rims, and have been thinking about throwing some on my car. I had a few questions about them in advance though.

1. Will going from my current 16 inchers, to 17 inch SS wheels change my ride quality or handling? Will it increase it or decrease it?

2. Will I have to calibrate the speedometer to compensate for the larger wheels?

3. Any idea where I can get some???

your best bet is oe wheels, my ss had zr1s when i got it, if you are looking for 10 spokes i would just keep an eye in the parts section they come up all the time, as far as your other questions your speedo might be just a hair off but i dont think you will notice, i think it will ride better, when ever i get new rims and tires i always thought they were a better ride lol

16 to 17 doesn't cause much of an impact. At 18 you feel more bumps in the road and an overall decrease in ride quality.

As long as there's a decent quality/size tire then there won't be an issue.

Speedo won't be off enough to matter.

Hurt the gas mileage on mine though by roughly 30-40 miles per tank.

Serious? Bigger wheels by only an inch hurts the gas mileage...?

It will hurt gas mileage because they are heavier and usually wider as they get bigger. From 16 to 17's you won't have to worry about gas mileage changing that much...

Ride quality shouldn't change much from 16 to 17. Handling probably won't change much either, possibly get a tad better since you will have wider tires and less of a sidewall.

Speedo won't be off enough to get it calibrated.

I did this.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

snowflakes are ugly.. and 16s are tiny for daily drivers.

I picked up my SS rims from a guy that was REALLY into his car.. for around $200 locally. He got OE wheels to replace em.

they fit just fine, and iirc the 17s make the speedometer read on the high side, so you're speeding less than you think you are.. which for me is good.

Forgot to mention the gas mileage change was on my six cylinder bird, not my TA.

Thus it may not be as drastic on the LS1.

I get 230 miles to 10-12 gallons flogging it and having fun in a city commute on SS 17s in my Z.

I didn't drive long on the snowflakes, the tires were bald and I picked these up so cheap I wanted out of them (and onto some new tires)

You speedo will be fine.
Gotta remember that with 16's you usually have a larger sidewall.
When you jump up one inch, the sidewall profile is different and washes the difference.
Your other questions depend on variables that cannot be determined.
It will not be worse though.

I've had 10 spokes for a while, but recently got them powder coated and custom painted my own center caps.
Looks gooooood.
Need to post a pic at some point.

I was thinking about having mine powdercoated gunmetal/anthricite grey. I'm not sure though. I have a pewter car and I'm kind of going for a pewter/black look. my center hubs were painted blue by the previous owner so I rattle canned them black and got black lug covers. Looks pretty good as is imo. Kinda got the idea from my friends G8 v6.

OP. My car came with 17in 10 spoke ss wheels. The ride is great, don't worry about that. But I do get terrible fuel economy. I never thought it could be because of the wheels. Something to think about...

Wow. I guess the only good thing about SS wheels is the better appearance? Not seeing anything about these that makes me want to get them anymore. 30-40 miles less per tank? That's pretty awful for a 1 inch increase.

If you use the stock size tires, your speedo should read the same. I bet they just used a slightly small sidewall to makeup for wheel size so it would read the same...

Going from 245-50-16 tires to 275-40-17 tires will NOT cause any difference in your speedometer readings at all since their overall tire diameters are the exact same at 25.7". Those that are claiming such a huge loss in fuel economy should probably look into their cars for other issues. My car has wheels and tires that are pretty wide, PLUS my car makes quite a bit of power and I'm not seeing much of a fuel economy loss.

When I went from 17's to 18's I didn't notice a big difference in mileage either.
