Default Shipping Tires UPS?

If I'm shipping tires through UPS. Is it cheaper to put each tire in a box and not tell them its a tire? Or should I just do like the website says and wrap some tape around the tire and stick their label to it?

I read on ehow that they might charge more if they know its a tire because its more easily damaged.

If you tape 2 together it will cost you about $45-50/pair.

If you put each tire in a box you will pay for that box based on both size and weight. I would bet my money it will be at least half price to send them taped together instead.

For my 27x12 tires it was like $27.50 per tire in a box on their website. Each tire was 31 pounds. I'll try just taping them.

Fedex home delivery/ground is cheaper than UPS. If you tape em together without a box theres a no box fee they tack on. Its generally $40-55/pr as mentioned.

make sure if you tape them together to get a shipping label for each tire. i shipped 4 rims using ups, strapped them together in pairs, used 1 shipping lable per pair to keep cost down, well needless to say the only rims that showed up were the ones with the tracking labels, the straps were cut and someone took the 2 unlabeled boxes. it was a nightmare getting my money for the rims from ups.

I have bought and sold tires in the past. Just tape two together and send them on their way.

FYI, it ended up being $84 from KY to FL via UPS ground. So I lost $24 since I estimated $60 for shipping originally.

This was two tires taped together weighing 69 pounds total on their scale.
