I have a few questions about widening my wheels. I want to run 315's on them and want to know if I should go 10.5 or 11 inches? Also I hear about having to run a spacer with the wheels, but ive heard of a much safer way. Not sure what this is but some explanation would be great. Thanks for the advice!

I think 10.5 is easier to mount for clearance reasons and if you are willing to hammer the wheelwells and cut off the bumpstop they should fit without spacers.

Check my thread a little down the page... I went with 10.5" because that is at the bottom of the recommended range for 315's and from what I've read on here they fit better than 11" rims.
You WILL need a spacer. How thick depends on your particular car and how much hammering you are willing to do.

#1, I would never recommend a spacer. Too many variables for something to go wrong...and the last place you want something to go wrong is on the part that keeps your car shiney side up.
A spacer would make wheels that have too high of an offset (oe vette rears) fit without rubbing. They can also be used to push the wheels out farther for a more agressive look.
I believe H&R makes a stud/spacer combo kit that replaces the whole assembly. More expensive, yes. Safer...MUCH!
Can you explain this post? It sounds like some spacers are safer than others?

From what I've read on here, H&R's are considered the best. Here's what I ordered, they're hubcentric on both sides (bottom of the page):

I must not understand how it all goes together. I will have to take the wheel off and hopefully I will figure it out from there. Is this the one you are talking about?

There is a difference between "Spacers" and "Adapters".
Spacers are basically shims that push the wheels out a small amount, and it is best/safest to use longer studs to ensure you have enough thread.
An Adapter bolts on to the lugs with lug nuts, then the wheel itself bolts to the adapter. Adapters are ideal for what your wanting to do, since a spacer wouldnt be safe at that size.
Im running 11" wide 00 WS.6 wheels, and Im using a 1" adapter. The tires site just inside the fenders, and Im really happy with the way they look. I did have to hammer the inner fenders for added clearance, and will be cutting off the bumpstop mounts, since I dont even have stops installed.

Me personally, Im happy with my 11" wheel/1" adapter, but 10.5 will definitly get the job done. The TAs do have a little more space in the rear fender area though.
I like the 11" wheel due to the simple fact that tires vary a good amount in width from brand and type of tire. A good example is my current 555s compared to my previous 555Rs. (pics below) Im also happy with how the sidewall looks on the wheel. It looks almost identical to the 275s in the front, so its subtle from the side... A little less from behind lol.
Some crappy cell pics.

Left is unmounted 555, Right is mounted 555R (on my 11" wheels) Both laying flat on the floor.

Im assuming since your widening some 10 spokes, you have a Camaro?

Yup, clearance really boils down to the correct spacer, and other mods you do. I did some BFH towards the front of the well to better clear the 555s. The 555Rs didnt need as much massaging to clear. Ill be cutting off my bumps just so I can jack the car up without them catching on the wheel or tire when the suspension droops. I just recently rolled my fenders, just because when the car is weighed down it would rub some.
One more thing, is getting an adjustable PHR is a VERY good idea since the stocker wont be centered under the car.
Check with your local wheel/tire store, and see if they have any boxes left over from wheels near the stock size. If not, you can make your own box. You can get moving boxes or anything like that and make em fit.

So to find the correct spacer I should mount wheel and tire and measure from tire to edge of fender for correct size? Also I assume I should measure after the rear has been centered with phb?

I would hate to do any real performance driving with a spacer or an adapter on my car. And if that's the case, why the need for 315s other then just looks only. Then, how many people honestly are gonna even notice?
