Default 245-50ZR-16 tires??

What tires are you all using now-a-days? My Z28 needs new hoops and all the old brands are gone! I need a Z-rated tire but I don't want a tire that will only last a summer or two either you know. I miss the old BFG Comp TAs and the old Gatorbacks!

Problem is the 245-50-16 size is about dead in terms of high performance summer tires - the other day I only found 4 in that size.

But you can easily fit a 225-55-16 tire (same diameter, slightly less width) on 16" x 8" wheels, and there are over 20 high performance choice available today.

Not sure about street tires, but as far as drag radials go I know that 245/50R16's are pretty hard to come by now.

Nitto 555R in 245/50R16
BFG g-Force T/A DR's in 255/50R16
M/T ET Street Radial in 255/50R16
Toyo Praxes TQ in 255/50R16

I would recommend the new BFG G force comp 2. Good wear and performance.

They look very nice - have 2 sets here in the shop unmounted and they put a lot of tread to the pavement. Then again they are larger (wider) than smae size tires from conti, falken, and nitto.

You can also run 225-55-16 size on stock wheels too - probably 12 or 14 high performance choices in that size.

Ive said this before and ill say it again. Kumo tires for cars SUCK and i have a set of wheels in my garage to prove it. I went through 7 khumo
Tires in 2 years for the same friggen car. And falkens are no better.

The best tires ive personally used in
A 245/50/16 have been bfg g-force supersport a/s. That was a really great tire.

You may also check to see if they make the new Nitto Motivo in that size as that has a 60k mile warranty and according to all the new tests, put it in a premium high perf tire class...also an all season.

225 is only 20mm smaller nominally, some tires (like BFG) actually give their tires an above spec section width and that would work pretty darn good. With the small pool of 245-50-16 tires, the 225-55-16 is worth a look...

Keep in mind that BMW uses 225-45-17 tires on 8" wheels for the most recent 3 series cars - a 245-50-16 tire really needs a 8.5" wheel for optimal stability, which of course GM did not do.
