I'm looking to put some drag radials on my rear wheels. I'm interested in mickey thomson drag radials because they're street legal. Is it safe to put drag radials on the rear with Firehawk street tires on the front? Is there another street legal drag radial i should check out?

It's absolutely fine, and it depends on what you are expecting out of them. Street? Track? Mileage? Handling? Daily driver? etc...

I ride them on my 2000 WS6 but my car is a weekend/fun car ,if you plan to daily driving the ET s they wont last long because of the soft compound . And never ever drive more than 45 mph in the rain on them, if you do you are asking for a hydroplane !!! Aside from that they are really good for drag racing

well i have a 1998 trans am and its a dailey driver. i take it to the drags every time i can but i also love the look of some drag tires. would they be safe to drive in the rain? and what kind of milage would i get out of them? im just tired of burning through tires from roasting them at the drags. i also dont want to start causing rear end damage because of hard launches. would you recommend just getting new street tires or throwing some drag radials on the rear?

I'd be surprised if you get more that 15-20,000miles out of then, it would be very unsafe to drive at highway speeds in the rain, and if your car is a 6 speed there's a good chance you'll break you rear end.

Well like stated above they will be kind of temperamental in the rain. If you don't want "possible" rear end damage then a MT drag radial is not for you lol They may last as little as a couple thousand miles or maybe closer to 10-15 thousand miles. It all depends on how you drive and use them

Automatics don't hit the your drivetrain as hard as dropping the clutch in a m6 car. Although there's still a chance you'll break your rear end with DR's in a mostly stock a4 it's just a lot smaller. I wouldn't put DR's on a car that I have to depend on everyday it's asking for trouble.

Because with a auto you can footbrake and with a manual your reving up and dumping the clutch which is alot more punishing on your old rear end.
Actually he would be better off trying out a set of Nitto 555Rs. They will last more miles and are more forgiving in the rain. I wouldn't drive mine (MTDRs)in the rain for hell nor high water.

okay, just got my firebird i didnt know if i got lucky with a better rear end or something because it was auto lol. i just got rigd of my 03 supercharged mustang and i had 315 nitto nt05rs and loved those. those or the 555rs i recommend. oh and never get ectsa xs tires they are the worst tire i ever used.

He's not gonna get ANYWHERE near that out of those tires. That's the kind of mileage to expect out of summer street tires.

I would be surprised if he gets more than 5,000 miles out of those daily driving. A good alternative for 15,000 mile drag radial would be the Nitto 555R. Not gonna happen with the MTs.

Just becarefull, running drag radials on the street are very dangerous specially on wet ground.

Well it sounds like the MT's arent for me.. what would you recommend? im looking for a fat tire that will grip hard but will last and i love the look of the tire sticking out of the wheel well. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, my BFG drags lasted about 8k. I doubt MTs would last as long with them being stickier.

I personally would want matching front and rear for DD comfort and safety.
Find some matching used rims and mount up some "racing tires".
I found some mounted up barely used M/T streets on Craigslist for $175

You might want to look into the Toyo Proxes TQ drag radial. I ran it on my Mustang, and it grips better than a Nitto 555R for sure and lasts almost as long

I used Nitto 555 when I first built the car, grip way better than the street tire but still spun the the tires, lasted 2 years of driving the car maybe 3 days out the week, no odometer on car so can't give you mileage, switched to the Nitto nto5, broke the rear end, and 50mph on a wet street will scare the crap out of you, MT drag radial is a much better drag radial than the nitto nto5 so don't think its your best choice.
