And apparently everyone else missed the part about me having 0 interest in a drag radial. Everyone must be driving around on pep boys tires if they can't hook from a 2nd gear roll on a street tire. Right now I have it narrowed down to the comp-2's and continental dw's. Most people say the continentals have a soft sidewall so I'm 99% sure I'm going with the bfg's.

The 'threshold' for hooking a 17" 555R in first gear from a dig on the street from what I've experienced is around 400rwhp. Anything over that I'd step up to a MT ET street radial - preferably a series 2 for the more rain friendly tread pattern. On a well prepped track with a heavy burnout the 555Rs will hold a 380rwtq WOT launch, but not much more.

I'm with oChristiano.... I too am running the Nitto555's up front and the 555R's out back (315)... Great for traction and they ride really nice...

Also got alot of life out of them. The Nittos run narrow but the TQs ran wide IMHO. Almost as wide as my friends 335 R888s and wider than his 315 RA1s. The Nittos were barely wider than my 275/40/17 MT ET Streets.

What's wrong with running a drag radial instead of a street tire? You wanna spin your *** off or hook when you want it to? Going from a street tire to a drag radial IMO was the best decision I ever made.

Yeah they are a little pricey of a tire. They came down for a while and looks like they shot back up.

People that are running 315s are getting better traction as it's like running a 28" tire. Same goes for those running bigger wheels and tires of 18"-20".

I prefer to stay at 275/17" for street and 26"/15" for track since my suspension seems to allow it to hook very well.

I out launched an awd talon on 2-step with 15-20 lbs of boost without stalling up, just flashing converter and running on nearly bald 275 cheap tires on 17" wheels. I didn't spin or chirp or hop or anything. Just squat and go. Suspension can speak volumes.

Nothing wrong with it. I will be running some soon for added security as my power is increasing. Better safe than sorry even with a good suspension setup.

My 555R used to hook in 2nd with 550rwhp. Now with somewhere really close to 600rwhp, they dont. Threadwear is pretty good. If its cold, 555R dont hook tough. Dont forget that suspension setup is a big factor.

I'm gonna buy another set this summer.

Because I want something good in Florida downpours and that lasts more than 10k miles, plus something that I can rotate. And I didn't spend all this $$ on my suspension to make it under-steer like a dumptruck with dr's out back, and that's ignoring the fact that 555r's are still useless in 1st gear unless you heat them up.

I was going to wait another month or 2 but I couldn't pass up the $100 rebate at discount tire.

Hopefully it's the mold release making the tires slick since they only have 20 miles on them at the time of the video. Still can't go full throttle till 3rd, I'll update in a week if anything changes. Either way they still should be good at sebring in a couple months.

:edit: I guess it was just the mold release, these tires hook as good as 555r's on the street. I can almost go full throttle in 1st gear.
