Default Best tires for 18" Z06 Rims & Preventing Curb Rash

So a few months back I purchased my 99 Z28 which came with 18" Z06 Rims and the tires that it came with are 245 45 r18. I've noticed the lip sticks out quite a bit and I'm not careful when parking next to a curb, well we all know what happens. I remember back when I had my 98 Eclipse GTS with Stock wheels no matter how close I got to the curb they would be fine. Now I know I'm not the best drive, if I was this wouldn't be an issue. If I get wider tires will it help or prevent my problem? If so what tires should I get? Also where is the best place to get tires? I don't mind getting some used one's as long as they're in good condition but I'd like them all to be matching.

18x? chances are the wheels are 18x9.5 and running a 245 is narrow. if the wheel is 9.5" wide then run a 275 tire (Nitto 555, NT05, Continental etc etc etc)

but you need to know how wide the wheel is.

I believe they are 9.5 which is what the previous owner told me but I'm not 100% sure. Is there a way I could check?

agreed.. there was a 3 page post/argument about this topic.. people dont want to listen.. its a big *** argument. 245 or 275 on a 9.5in. make this a sticky. lol

"at least 275's on a 9.5!!!!"

Well they're not 9.5. I measured them and they're 10.5. So I think I'm gonna need some wider tires.

what do you guys suggest?

18x10.5 on all 4 isnt that common of a setup. thats pretty wide in the front but people do do it.

run a 275/35/18 in the front and the same in the back or a 295/35/18 (the 295 is about .5" taller but shouldnt cause problems)

Continental ExtremeContact DW is a nice tire

Yeah I've heard, but that's how I got the car but I really like the Z06's so it will most likely stay that way.

I'm trying to look for some 295/35/18 but I'm having trouble finding something inexpensive. I'd really like to get a decent set of used tires but I can't seem to find anything anywhere.

I've heard that some 315/35/18 will also fit but how good will that work out. Anybody ever run those on some 10.5"?

Also I live in Los Angeles, CA. Anybody know where I can get a good matching set of used tires? I've tried calling local shops but most don't have anything wider than 245 and if they do they usually only have 1 tire.

What' wrong with used tires? I've bought them for other cars I've owned and they've always been fine. But then again all other cars I've owned wren't performance cars that I would drive hard.
