If they were 9.5's you would be OK with 315's. Alot of the new Cobra owners have been doing it. I wouldnt put a 315 on a 9" rim though. Go with a 295.

I would NEVER put a tire, onto wheel that was not recommended by the manufacturer. And if you find a tire shop willing to install a tire onto a wheel that is not recommended: run, run away fast as you can.

Widest for a 9" wheel, 285 MAX

My friend ended in a ditch when I was following him... the tired unmounted from the rim while he was pushing it.
Trust manufacturers recommendations.

a 315 on a 9" looks to bulged anyhow, definetly dont go around any corners quickly

Yes, 315 on a 9" rim is a HORRIBLE idea. Not only is it dangerous, but good luck finding a tire shop that doesn't have the brains to put those tires on that wheel for you. 275, maybe 285 is as large as I would go.

Who makes a good 285 or 295 tire for the 17" rim?

Good choice. Why stuff an oversized tire on that rim. My guess is there are hicks running 315-335s on 9" rims and think they are cool.
