C5 dd rims plastidip Well, it's been 5 years since I put this set of rims on the camaro, and decided to black out the chrome before I put the winter set away and get ready for spring.
I used almost one full can of plastidip for each wheel. Overall, I think it turned out better than I expected. It will be interesting to see how it holds up over time.
Sprayed them at work.

18x10.5 all around, tires are 295 35 rear, 275 35 front.

Thanks. Well, I didn't mask off the tire, sprayed right over it, peeled off easily. Bought the cans about a year ago, made sure I shook them up good. With the wheel off the car, you can roll it back and forth to reach sides of the spokes,etc, while holding the can upright and maintaining a decent flow. I put 4 coats on, the first coats somewhat light, didn't try to pound it on. Waited maybe 10 minutes between coats, longer if it doesn't look dry. If the can was getting low or empty, I'd spray the inner barrell with it. I wanted a fuller can for good flow on the visible areas. It's not going to be a totally smooth texture using a spray can, but it looks fine imo. You can probaly get it smooth using the gallon cans with a spray gun for it and thinning it out a bit.

Thanks, I hear ya, too bad they never came out with a 17x11 c5 dd wheel.
Haha, well I only did them a couple weeks ago, hopefully they stay looking the same. I do wash the car once a week, even if I don't do the whole car, I still get the rims washed. I also use the yellow meguiars soap with the wax. Hopefully it's good for the finish. Apparently there's some cleaner specifically for plastidip which would be good to use once in a while if they start looking shitty.
