Default Need help picking some tires for fi car with 600HP+

Hey guys i have a f1 procharged 2000 trans am putting down around 600 hp and im looking to put the power down the best i can. I have a set of rims that have been three pieced so i can fit 315's on there. Listed below are the tire i'm picking between with price.

nitto invo's $259, NT555R $200
Toyo Proxes R888 $272, TQ $186
Mickey Tompson ET Street Radial $230

I would love to hear from some people that have used them with over 500 hp and see how they stick. I use this car for fun and will go to the track a time or two a year. I know that im getting to the point where i need slicks to make sure i can stick but i do drive it on the street so i would like to stick with a radial. Any input would be great

Thanks

If you want traction the et streets are the best option for straight line but the R888's wi give you straight line and cornering. Pick which is most important to you and go from there.

I am running 315/60/15 or 30x13.5x15 Micky Thompson Drag Radials, they have been Fantastic, ALOT of rubber on the foot print and they last along time, have done many many many Burn outs and they are still looking new, the tires are mounted on 15x10 draglites with 7.5"BS, I run them on the street at 18PSI and 14PSI on the track ... they ride great,

No problems. It's all personal preference. I personally don't prioritize the drag strip so having a tire that can stick and get me around some turns well is what I like. You can always have a second set of rears if you want a stickier tire in the back.

Why not run the nt555r? Will grip better than the invo probably give you a little better longevity than the toyo or mickeys

Just from what Iv read I thought the Invo's stick better with higher hp??? I don't have any first hand knowledge but that's just what iv gathered. I know once I buy a pair of tires I will try another brand next time to see the difference, I'm just trying to see everyone's opinion and go from there.

From other reviews that i have read on here and other sites, mainly corvette forums and svt forums, either one of the toyo tires you listed seem to be the way to go. Anyone that has ran the 555r's and the toyo tq's pretty much always say the tq's hook better and last just as long and lots of people say the r888's are the best street tire they have ever ran. I personally ran 555r's a few years back and they were ok but im looking to run one of the choices from toyo myself

yea Iv been thinking about going with the toyos and maybe starting with the qt's and see how they do, just wanted to put this out there and see what ppl say.

what I really would like is the MT with a side wall bc I do drive on the streets and I don't want there to be issues going around turns and what not.... but cant have everything when you looking for tires with high hp gotta have a trade off at some point

I would really like to know if anyone has had both of the Toyo's and which one they liked best

Invo's do not stick at all. Not sure where you read that at. They are a regular street tire.

From my experience, the Invo's are not well suited for high horsepower. I'm at 600+ rwhp on the bottle and even with a smooth ramp rate on the progressive controller the tires don't stand a chance in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear.

Much better compound on the R888's and the ET streets. The ET streets will offer the best straight line traction. The R888 is a more versatile tire and will last a bit longer.

Don't let the ET streets "handling ability" discourage you for normal street driving. It takes a good bit to get them to push over. If you're pushing closer to the handling limits on track that would be another story.

Personally, I run 555R rears on the street in the summer. I've run the ET streets and BFG's and both were better, however I get 8,000+ miles from the 555R and they're easy to find. On the track (road course) I run 555R II's or R888's when it's dry and run Invos in the rain (because I've found the only thing they're good at for me is channeling standing water).

thanks man for your input and thanks for including good information, think im going to go with the nt05R's and see how I like them. this is not a dd and most of the time I drive it its nice out. I figured once I get the tire and put some hard miles on them I will come back with my review.... I wish more people would do that on these forms when they do ask questions and then pick an item. If I don't like them guess I try another pair haha
