Default Hoosier DOT radials users Chime in!!

I ordered a set of Hoosier DOT drag radials because theres alot of threads on here raving about them.

Well they came in today, and i immediately thought to myself theres NO WAY anyone is doing any kind of driving other then drag racing with these.

But, before i go all crazy and try to return them, are there guys driving these on the streets? Id like to be able to drive these to work and enjoy the car a couple days a week.

And PS, maybe this is common knowledge, but these tires are not DOT approved. They are approved for DOT tire drag racing classes. Im ok with that part, just thought id share.

What makes you feel so strongly that people aren't driving them on the street?

i had them last year. my car is not a dd but it was the only set of wheel/tires I had at the time. I made a 4hr highway trip to cruising the coast and then another 4 hr trip back home with them on and I had no issues. I drove them in the rain a few times with no issues as well. if its just hammering out just be smart about the driving ya know. that seems to be a new tread design, mine on the 325/50/15 I had, had the 1 line on each outer portion of the tire.

i also made a few trips to the track with them, also driving with them on there and back from the track. that was a hr and 15 minute ride one way. i got right at one year out of them. if you have another set of street wheels to ride around on then they will last a lot longer, but like i said that was the only set of wheels/tires i had at the time.

I put 200 miles a night on mine when I take the car out. They street drive fine, between street driving and racing they only last 5-6 month. If you are intending to daily driver them, plan on replacing them ever 2-3 months.

My buddy used to run them in a 315 size on the street in his mustang. Stuck like glue but wore out super fast

I stand corrected then. Ill run them.

I just saw they offered the quick time pro tire also, and just wondered if THAT was the tire people were driving on the street.

But, if you guys are getting even a season out of them, and arent wrecking cars at the sight of water, then im all in.

I daily drove on mine when my jeep blew up. I only got about 2-3 months out of them but there was a lot of racing involved.

I live in Arizona, never rains. I would be driving extra careful if you get caught in a rain shower or storm. Not enough tread, they will probably hydroplane

My car is not a DD. I will only take the car out if its not going to rain. That said in Florida thats hard to predict. I drove home once when the roads were still damp. Just keep it slow. For dry conditions these tires are better than any dr I've had period! They aren't noisy, the sidewall doesn't sway like the bfg and mt does. Hook better than anything Ive tried.

Not Street approved...Is it because they aren't steel belted radials but fiberglass instead? That makes them light also! I've driven from Charleston sc to jax with no issues. If they got a nail in them I'm not sure if you patch it..?

In a perfect world, I won't be driving these in the rain. The problem is that my shop is almost an hour from my house, so if I take the car home, it's for the entire day.

Not too hard to look at the weather and plan accordingly, but like redgto4u, it's going to happen

Those are the tires I have and for clarification I do not and will not drive them on the street.

Mostly for fear of ruining them from heat cycling and wearing them out very quickly.

They are by far the stickiest tire I've ever had on my car. More so than a MT bias ply or radial ET street. That sticky comes at the price of longevity and sidewall strength.

BTW the Quick Time Pro are bias ply. Do not run those on your car with a radial on the front. It causes sway and if you aren't careful you can spin the car at speed from over correcting.

I would NOT expose these to the northeast's winter ambient temps (either stored, OR driving on the street), as the compound is so soft it WILL freeze, and ruin their grip if exposed to anything lower than 45*F for any period of time.

I have those same tires but they are mounted on dedicated track wheels. I won't ever use them on the street because they will wear out way too quick.

That would be driver error. The first time I took mine out on full slicks at 12 psi it had bad walk around under hard acceleration. It made me a little nervous and I took a few runs before I made a "full pass" in Mexico. You definitely need to give yourself time to relearn the car after slicks. If you are commuting somewhere in them, raise the psi to stiffen them up some, drive smart and you'll probably never notice they're back there.

Anyone here been 160-180mph on these tires? Roll races. Do they make the rear-end feel a little loose at those speeds?
