***nitto Nightmare***
This is a warning to anyone that has bought or soon to buy 285/35/18 Nittos, or perhaps others as well. I thought Nitto was a great company, no complaints, UNTIL TODAY!! I was driving on the freeway and the sidwall completely blew off my tire, a tire with about 2000k miles on it only!!! Thank GOD that I didnt lose control. It is plain and simply a defective tire. This goes as a precaution to all. It completely ruined my 18" Black Z06 motorport rim. I will be contacting Nitto Monday morning with a demand to Replace Both my rim and tire. Please becareful!!
Hopefully they will treat me with respect and plain and simply what I deserve...Keep you posted!

Do some research, find out what their policy is on those tires and what exactly it covers in terms of damage. I wouldn't be suprised if they have some sort of legal statement protecting them from any obligation.
Its understandable your pretty pist, but don't go calling them up demanding anything and pissing off the person on the other end of the line. That is only going to cause them to shut you off and not do a damn thing.
Hope it works out for you.

yeah, more than likely they won't reimburse you for anything. they'll blame it on your tire pressure possibly; they might say you hit a board in the road; blah blah blah. i would go to your insurance company instead. they don't usually give a **** what happened, they just tend to give you an appraisal and send you a check. just make sure that doesn't up your rate. give nitto a try, but they probably won't be too forgiving about the matter unfortunately.

the wheel is a 18 x 10.5.. The car is its original color...It is kinda like a dark green with a yellowish metal flake in it..its called (Bright Yellow Polyp Green) what ever that means...I hope they do take care of this issue, they are a highly respectable company. I will totally keep my cool with them. I am not trying to get over on them on this deal. It could of turned out a lot worse.. All I want is a new tire, and a repaired/replaced rim...Keep you all posted..thanks!

I read somewhere that Nitto had a lawsuit against them for something like this, where the plaintiff was killed or severely hurt. I'm not sure though. Go and do some research on Google. Type in Nitto, and lawsuit together. See if something comes up. Then again what'd you guys expect from inexpensive tires like that. I never even heard of Nitto until a few years ago. Your wheels can probably be fixed. Here's a company that can handle the task, and are almost magicians with damaged wheels. They do brilliant work.
It's Wheels America. Here's their site:

WOW. This is horrible to hear! Thank God it didn't end up with a more devastating result! I was thinking of purchasing that exact same tire (285/35/18 555R), but now I'm thinking twice about it! Are nitto and BFG the only companies that make 18" drag radials? I need an 18" drag radial that will be good for my daily driver. I've had great experience with the regular nitto 555's on my 19's-(lasted over 20000 strong), but I know that the 555R's are a completely different tire. man.....i'm still shocked to hear about this.
