Default OEM wheels wider ?

Has anyone ever had OEM wheels made wider ?

I have 17 x 9 OEM wheels, that I am told can be widened to 10.5 or 11 inches, with the use of a donor wheel. If I do this, it will be for the rear wheels only.

I prefer the width to be made to go towards the frame/ inside of the car.

Ok, for clarification, can I have the wheels widened to 11 inches, but keep the widening towards the " inside " of the wheel well ?

Meaning from the side, the OEM wheel will still look, OEM.

Make sure if you do this that you only use a company that actually uses a donor barrel from another wheel. Don't do it with a steel hoop welded into your barrel.

Those wheels do not pass side-load tests. You may never have an issue, but you also might die.

Use a company that actually puts your wheel AFTER it has been widened through testing, otherwise you could be asking for a crash.

I widened 18 x 10.5 wheels....to 18 x 12.5. They actually weld it in multiple places and slide the donor barrel over a portion of the original barrel. Then weld it on both sides.

These guys did mine....they do it right. They will also turn you down unless the wheel you want widened does not meet certain measurement standards.

I was told I needed to provide a donor wheel, which I will. Will the 2 wheels that are to be widened have any issues of damaging the paint on the face of the wheels ? They are recently painted blue anniversary candy transparent

O.E. wheels are so inexpensive, I would just buy new wheels. I bet you can buy 2 wheels for the price of widening one.

I agree with this unless the wheel is special or unavailable. Like the other guy who widened his factory wheels. I'm into that.

Umm, 17 x 9 are the OEM max width. As far as I know OEM wheels for 4th Gen F bodies are not made in sizes 17x10.5 or 17x11.

So, widening the wheels would be an option.

On the O.E. website, look up corvette wheels instead of camaro wheels. Even at that, I am sure you will find more selection in 18/19 inch wheels compared to 17's. 17 inch tire availability has really dried up in wider widths, therefore so have wheel choices, or vice versa. I have a set of 17x11 CCW wheels that weigh around 18 lbs., a pretty good wheel but there is not one competitive 200tw AX tire for it. I had to keep with the times and put those wheels on the shelf and buy new wheels. Tire manufacturers still make some older lines of tires in a 315/35/17, but none of best tires are built anymore.

Thank you for the information, however I am preferring to have an OEM appearance. I am using the blue TA anniversary wheels, QF6 style.

Well, I bought a set of OE Wheels....C5 Deep Dish chrome. THEIR CHINESE CHROME PLATING IS PURE GARBAGE.

I had the first set for like 6 months and the chrome started falling off.....got another set sent to me FOR FREE ((in the end)) under warranty.....chrome fell off those in like 3-4 months.

So, I had one pair of the rear wheels widened at http://www.etmags.com/wheel_repair.html .......they provided the donor wheels.
After they finished widening my rear wheels they shipped them to a very good chrome shop and they stripped the crap chrome off and re-prepped them and re-chromed them. Then they shipped all 4 wheels back to me.

BADASS......

I'm gonna do the same to the other set I still have but keeping them 18 x 10.5 rears and 18 x 9.5 fronts. Use them for my 315 M&T's for fun nights........

The big 18 x 12.5" will have 335 tires, good street radials on the back for daily driving. But they are all the same C5 deep dish wheels.

OH....NO, the front face of the wheels will be protected during the process. I suppose accidents can happen, but they repair wheels also, you will get the wheels back in perfect condition.

Do it....you may need a 1/2" spacer depending on how wide you make them.

But if you widen them just 1-1.5"....all you need to do is bang the inner wheel wells with a hammer for 5 minutes each side.
