which would be best 285 or 305s
ok I have narrowed my choices down but let me tell you what I have...… its a 400rwhp A4 and I have 18x10.5 wheels so im thinking 285/35/18 Nittos 555Rs is probably best but I also like the look of fat meat out back so im also considering 305/35/18s my question is besides the look do you think its just overkill or would they actually hurt performance any if at all? just discuss and any feedback is welcome especially negative lol

yea I did some extra research and im not a bracket racer so I don't need every advantage I can get lol ok sir because I know you might be able to help me on this...… im going to run Nitto 555rs for now just because my son who is now co owner and basically he takes it now to car shows and gets into some street skirmishes every now and then just want to get that extra hook although we are planning to hit the dragstrip soon so I know the Mickeys or hoosiers would be best I just don't think we them but anyway how much size difference is there between the Nittos and Mickeys on the 305s? our fenders are rolled and bumpstop is the jeep version and I did some grinding already when I had the 15x10 pro stars with 275/60/15s on it so fitment should be good but what are your thoughts?

The MT 305's will be wider for sure, but of course they will wear faster, not handle as well, and will be worse in the rain...but better straight line traction of course. All 555r's seem to run narrow in any size that I've seen, but especially the 315. I can't say if the 305 is wider or narrower than the 315, but I'm willing to bet they are so close that you couldn't even tell. Have you considered the To Yo Proxes TQ drag radial?

yes I have I actually tried a se of 275/40/17s on my old 17" Z06 wheels didn't really think much of them but then again this was after using some MTs in that same size, but I gues whati wanted to know about the mickeys in the 305/35/18s is will there be a fitment issue as oppose to the Nittos?

the 315 nittos were on 17x10.5 wheels and the 285 hankooks are on 18x10 wheels. Nothing else changed aside from the wheels and tires. With the old tires first gear was useless and it would spin all of second in the right conditions. Now with the new 285s it’ll barely spin in first and sometimes barely chirps second.

I would just save some time and money and just buy some mickeys. I had a set of nitto 555r and i wasnt that impressed with them i have a stick car and make 410rwhp when i 1st got them they were ok but i had to run 17psi at tbe strip. I just spent more money and got s set of mickey et street radial R i have t went to the track yet but they hook dead on the street and thats with 30psi. If that were my nittos i would fry them if i wouldve bought mickeys to begin with i wouldve saved money. And mickeys werent much more.

With 400rwhp you will be slower with a 305 vs something more reasonable like a 275, plus spend more on tires, but it for sure will look better. Personal decision on if 285 vs 305 will be "best", since both are overkill.

I had 18 inch 305 Nitto 555r’s and they used to rub on the inside wheel well. They were actually wider then 17 inch 315 Nitto 555r’s. I had a couple people point that out to me when they saw my car in person. I thought the tires were perfect performance wise but I was only full bolt ons and with the stock torque converter at the time.

I ended up pulling the trigger on some MT 305/35/18s and after doing a ton of research the 315/35/17 MTs are actually wider !!!! so after having 275/60/15 MTs on pro stars previously so yes I have rolled fenders and trimmed the Bump stops im not worried about fitment even though my car is lowered with a non adjustable UMI panhard bar will take pics and post later
